This cache is located on Long Ridge. Drive up on top of the Roan by way of JQS or Cow Creek road. Drive along the Long Ridge road and when you come to the intersection of BLM road 8006, turn north (right). Not too far now :0)This is the site of the Water Creek Fire of 2010. The fire was caused by a lightning storm that came through the area. To the west of this swale was where the smoke jumpers landed. The area between the cache and the road became the staging area for ground forces and the ICP, or Incident Command Post. The ICP is where all the decisions about the fire are determined: strategies, tactics, suppression needs etcetera. The ICP was later moved to the bottom of the hill and then to the BLM office at the Rifle airport. This fire burned for an extended period of time and never did burn out the aerial fuels. Today they remain standing, waiting for wind, weather and time to knock them to the ground in order to great a giant pile of pick up sticks.

07/02/2011 By pakapat Found after attempting head/toe. Drove right by it before turning on gps, so got on the return. Saw a bear on the way down.
