The Animas River Trail in Durango parallels the Animas River and goes from 32nd street on the north end of Durango all the way south to River Road (7+ miles). The trail accommodates pedestrians and bicyclists and offers year-round interest for the avid nature lover or the casual walker.

The Whitewater park near the wastewater treatment plant offers some challenging rapids depending on the time of year and the water flow in the river.

The cache is located near the changing station for the whitewater park, with parking very close by. Santa Rita park also has a large playground for smaller children and several ball courts for different sports.
