Takes less than an hour  Available during winter  Dangerous Animals  Parking available

In late August 2017, Thornton was all abuzz with the news of a fossil find in the area.  The fossil find was thoroughly covered by the Denver news outlets, complete with TV crews and reporters filming stories from across the street on people's balconies.  The fossil was originally classified as a Triceratops.  It was removed from the ground and taken to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science.  A neighborhood school nicknamed the fossil "Tiny" and the moniker stuck.  With the dirt and rock fully removed from the fossilized bones, experts realized the fossil is really the much rarer Torosaurus.  The Torosaurus has a longer, thinner frill with two large holes.  Before Tiny, only 7 partial skulls and frills had been found.  And to make the fossil even more fun, a T-Rex tooth was mixed in with the bones.  Maybe that's why we only have the front half of Tiny, the back half may have been the meal for a hungry predator.

When you find this cache, look at the building up the hill to the northwest.  This is a training center for the local public safety officers and the location where Tiny was found.

Use the parking waypoint to make sure you're on the right side of the water.  Otherwise, you could be in for a long walk and/or wet feet!

I got my shoes wet walking to the cache site. Once the GPS zeroed me in, I was able to spot the cache. A fun twist on this type of hide.

Yes, I remember the TV buzz. Glad the Torosaurus I found today was a much smaller version! Thanks for another nice hide lasouthpaw in a historical area. I'm sure future school kids will learn about the area and who knows, someday they may even find the cache! Left a fav. TFTH SL

Second to sign on a beautiful day! I was happy to have my walking stick on the approach. Cute container. Gets a favorite point. The dinosaur at the playground was noted. Thanks for the fun, new placement and story, lasouthpaw!

FTF at 3:38 p.m. with Chihuahuas-3. We had all been out camping. We got home and saw this cache when it was published, but was backing the motor home in it's spot. Then C-3's got home and Mrs. C-3 called and asked if I wanted to go and of course, off we went. Nice quick find. Thank you!
