One of a series of caches recognizing figures from Pueblo's early days.

Jack Allen was one of the founders of a new town of Pueblo in 1860 after the discovery of gold in the Colorado mountains lured many more people to the area. He owned a tavern near First Street and Santa Fe, as well as a distillery which produced a potent and strong-flavored whiskey.

Most of the information to create this series came from the following three books: Pueblo, an Illustrated History by Eleanor Fry & Ione Miller. 2001. Heritage Media Corp. Carlsbad, CA Pueblo, a Pictorial History by Joanne West Dodds. 1982. The Donning Company/Publishers. Norfolk, VA They All Came to Pueblo: a Social History by Joanne West Dodds. 1994. The Donning Company/Publishers. Virginia Beach, VA

Thanks, NanCycle! I really appreciate the history lessons associated with all the caches I found today. It was great walking along the bike trail for most of them. We traveled down to Pueblo today. My aunt (two years older than me) is moving from Marquette, Michigan to Boulder to be closer to her daughter and the grandchild. Her older brother lives in Raton, New Mexico, so I drove her down to Pueblo for the hand off of my passenger. While having lunch together in Pueblo, I was subjected to stories of when Uncle George baby sat me while my dad was in college classes in Marquette and my mom was working. I had a couple hours to geocache in Pueblo before heading back to Arvada.
