Dogs  Not Available during winter  Motorcycles  Quads  Off-road vehicles  Medium hike (1km-10km)

This cache offers the unusual and a 4x4 challenge. The cache is located at a T-33 military trainer jet crash site. The cause of the 1965 crash was attributed to flying low and slow near a thunderstorm to look over newly purchased land. Both occupants of the jet were killed.
A stock high clearance 4x4 with an *experienced* driver should be able to do the challenges that are on the second half of the route. (Yuppie-mobiles won't make it). If you are uncomfortable with the tough section of the road you can always park and hike in the rest of the way. (Make it a 3 star).

Take the Peak-To-Peak highway to the Peaceful Valley Campground then follow the route below:

P1 N40°07.909 W105°30.563 Turn right on to the Bunce School Road. FDR115 (3 star)

P2 N40°08.165 W105°30.310 Take the left road.

P3 N40°08.295 W105°30.438 Take the right road. (Not on your map is it?)

P4 N40°08.333 W105°30.339 Stay left. (FDR 203)

P5 N40°08.499 W105°30.440 Stay right

P6 N40°08.898 W105°30.143 Stay right.

P7 N40°09.328 W105°30.515 Smart place to park. (Road narrows ahead)

P8 N40°09.399 W105°30.481 ATVs can park here. Follow the foot trail that goes North. (Don't go uphill on the ATV trail)

P9 N40°09.497 W105°30.382 Crash Site. Some interesting wreckage uphill but most is downhill from here.

P10 N40°09.461 W105°30.263 The Cache is located at the bottom of the crash site.

CA4WDCI road rating of 3 for Bunce School Road (FDR115) (I'm guessing they would give P3-P8 a rating of 6).

The Peaceful Valley entrance and P1 is gated closed from apx Dec till mid May. If the snow isn't too deep you can start in at N40°10.373 W105°28.091 (Bunce School - off of Hwy 7) and drive SW on FDR115 to P2 (No gates this longer way)

We found this cache as part of some vacationing in Colorado. We often target a few caches when we travel, usually trying our luck on a few higher difficulty/terrain caches, puzzle caches, ones that add new counties, and others that well…just seem interesting. This one was grabbed while we were doing some 4x4 riding in the area. Awesome location for a cache. Made our way here after the other plane cache. Thanks for the hide.

Spent the day jeep-caching with Waawhoo, EstesLynne & the Memfis Mafia. It was my first time on a serious jeep-trail, and we had some moments that just took my breath away! Still, with a couple of amazing jeeps and skilled drivers, we made it up to the end of the road. This cache was one of our targets for the day, so we hiked to "in Plane View" cache, then down among the plane wreckage strewn about on the hillside before searching for this cache. Quick find, love ammo boxes. TFTC!

Thanks for the fun day of caching.

We went out today in a couple of Jeeps and had fun picking up some caches away from the crowds. We have tons of photos and videos we will slowly upload. There were six in our group in all and I'm pretty sure I can safely say we all had a great day playing in the hills of Colorado.

Up here for 4WD caching with the waawhoo gang, and having a great time. We headed down here after finding "Plane View," and made short work of this cache. All the strewn plane parts made for an interesting, if sobering, little hike. TFTC!

Walked down the hill to this one after we found "In Plane View," stopping at the bits of aircraft we encountered along the way. Seems like most of the plane is still there. Cache was a little trashy, so we cleaned it up before putting it back.

On the way back up the hill to the Jeep, we found several aspens that something had been gnawing on. Any idea what did this?

I had wanted to see the crash site since I first heard about it a couple years ago, and today was the day that I finally made it. It was great to find an ammo can way out here. Thanks for taking the trouble to transport it, place it, and maintain it. I had a good day.
