A cache hidden around the 1880s station house in Osier Colorado.
The easiest and most pleasurable way to get to this geocache is to get a ticket on the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic (C&TS) Railroad in either Chama New Mexico or Antonito Colorado. The C&TS is the longest and highest narrow gauge railroad in the world. This is a living museum. That means that if you want to follow the morning routine with the engineers to fuel and water the locomotives, come and bring your camera. You can even walk through the round house and talk to the mechanics. This isn’t one of those buy a ticket and keep out of our way railroads. If you leave from Chama, you will be pulled to the top of Cumbres Pass on a 7% grade. If there are enough passengers, you may have a second or third coal burning, fire breathing steam-powered locomotive pulling you up to the top of Windy Point. Let’s see that other railroad in Durango provide you with that power!

The cache is about a five-minute walk from where you will have lunch in Osier. So have lunch, take a walk, find this cache, enjoy the view and have plenty of time to catch your ride back.

Osier was built as a section house in the 1880s and was part of the Chili Line that went from Denver to Santa Fe. It is being returned back to original condition by the volunteer efforts of the “Friends of the Cumbres & Toltec Rail Road.

If you must go by car, get on HWY 17 that goes between Antonito and Chama. At waypoint, N37 03.251, W106 11.245 turn south. About ˝ mile after the turn (N37 02.829, W106 11.259) turn right and travel an additional 14.5 miles to Osier. The dirt road is well maintained but, a little washboard at times. If the road is not dry, use caution. It can be slippery.

We left a lot of good stuff in the cache and the “Dolphins” travel-bug.

Have fun and enjoy the trip, view and beauty of the C&TS.

ARGGH! Rode the train and stopped here for lunch, hoping to check to see what caches are in the area... only to realize there is no cell signal here to load data. For future finders, please load this ahead of time and if possible, bring a replacement container. I hope to attempt this one again sometime in the future.

We really enjoyed our Chama train ride to see all the fall colors. Or stop here was long enough for us to hike up the hill and get this cash. The container needs a little help to keep the water out everything looked like it had gotten wet at one time. OK

Oh my goodness, what a disappointment! Surprised that someone hasn't mentioned it yet -- this cache is a wet, moldy, dirty mess. Sure does need someone (like the owner) to go clean it all out and maybe replace it with an ammo can!! We signed the very damp log and put some painted rocks in. Re-hid the cache and went on to enjoy the GREAT lunch nearby!

Took the wonderful train ride from Chama to Antonito. Thanks for placing this cache so I could get my Conejos county cache. The cache is in need of serious maintenance but the coordinates are spot on.

Found this one today after lunch at Osier Station. We road the train from Chama to Antonito and the bus back. Wouldn't you know it I hadn't charged the batteries in my GPS and they were dead. I checked at the gift shop and they had AA batteries all right - 4 batteries for $8.99. I wasn't going to pay that so I decided that I wasn't going to be able to find this one. No service on the iPhone but I thought what the heck and low and behold I did have GPS function. I hiked to the cache and when I opened the container it was full of water. Apparently the last cacher didn't get it sealed completely and the melting snow had nearly filled it with water. I dumped out the water but the log was too wet to sign. Photo of the container as proof that I found the cache and the water. TFTH TFTC

Thanks for the cache. What a great idea: combining scenic train riding, geocaching, and mountain climbing (well , hiking for senior citizens) into one event.

It was a bit of a hike, but not too bad. Wonderful wonderful train trip for us. Thanks to the co for creating and maintaining this cache for us to find.

Found this one on 7/2/17. Great train ride and just enough time to piddle, find the cache, leave a trackable, and eat. Take our furry friend far!

After a delicious lunch, we made a beeline for this cache, our 999th. After a brief search, the container was found and the log was signed.
My two favorite hobbies: trains and caching. Container lid is cracked but logbook is in good condition. Thanks for hiding.

I drove in from Sublette Station and found the cache in great shape while 2 trains were stopped at the station diner for lunch. (Fantastic Food!!!) I visited the site the next two days this time riding the train between Antonito and Chama. (Plenty of time to make the find and still enjoy lunch)

Time your visit for approx. 2 PM to observe the train rounding the 180 degree turn and heading on up the valley to the pass (summer months)
