Do not count spaces or symbols and case is important!

Decipher the waypoint and head for waypoint 2.

Waypoint 2:
Look for a sign with a map.
This will test your high school math skills and if you are successful you will have derived waypoint 3.
Do not panic though - all you need to know is how to use a scientific calculator.
Any standard Windows PC will have a scientific calculator.

The following information will be helpful:
Number of colors in the rainbow: 7
Acronym of the first letters of colors: VIBGYOR
V is in position one.

Now get your pen ready and answer the following:
A. In the sign's legend, what color corresponds to Cherry Creek Trail? _________
B. What is the position of that color's first letter in VIBGYOR? _______
C. In the sign's legend, what color corresponds to Bear Creek Trail? _________
D. What is the position of that color's first letter in VIBGYOR? _______
E. In the sign's line that starts with 'For', how many vowels does that line contain?______

In the following numbers, replace the alpha character with the corresponding answer from the above questions.
0.81B595B2E9EE5 Resulting number X___________
2.021E2D501E9 Resulting number Y___________

Waypoint 3 is:
N inverse tan(X) or arctan(X)
W inverse log(Y)

This is a sanity check that you are okay this far: Geochecker.com.

Congrats! Now proceed to Waypoint 3.

Waypoint 3:
There are several signs in the area. Look for the largest one near some steps. The number of these steps is not important.
Read the sign and then you will know what you need to do. Grumble.
At your destination, there will be more signs and you will need to gather information from them.

Use the Lat/Lon from waypoint 2 and switch to UTM. Grumble.

A. Multiply the number of steps times the visibility______
B. Answer A minus the number of mules______
C. Answer B plus the last two digits of when Helen started______
D. Easting of waypoint 2 minus answer C______

E. Rule number that has "descending" in it times the elevation______
F. Rule number that has "ascending" in it______
G. Rule number that has "obstruct" in it______
H. Rule number that has "years" in it______
I. Form number from above answers: FGHF______
J. Sum of answer E and I______
K. Northing of waypoint 2 minus answer J______

You can check your cache coordinates at: Geochecker.com.

Go for the cache! It is very difficult to find. GPSr lock might be with just three satellites.

GED-1 was transferred from Jim Reeb to user herndonrd

Found it 08/15/2018 By herndonrd
Finally! This was exactly the opposite of the rest of the Jim Reeb puzzles for me. Normally I have to pester him for hints to solve the puzzle and the find is easy. This one I actually solved myself and then it took 3 trips, emails, directions and pictures (and even then some luck) to find the container. FeartheFish and I made another attempt and, after an hour, finally found it. Gave some additional data to the CO to help inept people like me with the find. Definitely a favorite! TFTC!

WOOOOHOOOO!!!! Great to find this one after almost 4 years of hanging out by itself! I started the puzzle a few months ago and was able to figure out all of the data needed, but the CO had to help me with a couple of hiccups I encountered to get a final "Success" before heading out to make the final find. Animjason gave me some moral support as I looked all over the place for the final, but I was able to make the find of the replacement container and head back to my truck before I was too exhausted to do so. A huge thanks to Jim&Ashoo for their help on this one and a well put together puzzle cache. Adding a favorite point.. Cheers!

Confirmed it was missing, and replaced for the CO while in the area with my scouts. Left a few movie digital codes for cachers, including the movie 127 Hours.

Thanks Jim&Ashoo! Logged GED-1 using a seventh galaxy!

Didn't find it 09/20/2015 By benji55545
After dropping family off at the airport, I looked around for some old caches in the area. This one popped up and I decided to give it a shot. I had no idea what I was getting myself into. But once I got started I decided to let the cache take me on a journey across town. After solving for waypoint 3, I contemplated heading home and saving it and the final for another day, especially since I forgot my GPSr and was relying on my phone. Ah, oh well, I went for it.

I made it to waypoint 3 and collected all the necessary information, and was even inducted into the Ancient and Honorable Order of Squirrels by the forest service employee at the top of the stairs. Hah! I computed the coordinates of the final, but didn't realize until that moment that the app I use on the phone does not accept UTM coordinates! I tried to get a cell signal to convert the coords online but no luck. So I was once again resigned to heading home and returning another day.

But, as luck would have it, I had my laptop in the car and I have a couple programs that will happily convert my coordinates, even without an internet connection. And what luck, the final isn't all the way back up there! But alas, despite an hour of searching, I couldn't come up with the container. I eventually stumbled across the exact location pictured in ashoo's log from 2013, but still couldn't find the ammo can anywhere. Oh well, maybe some other day :(

Looks familiar

I'll take a DNF with this view any day

Corrected problems for waypoint one.

Just checked on the cache and verified the condition. The Garmin eTrex Summit GPS was showing 25ft at the cache. The cache container is still in pristine condition after more than a decade and a couple of original items are still intact. Interesting to read the log entries in the log book from a few that stumbled on it by accident! Did this with my brother and niece visiting from India and they were impressed with their first caching experience.

The cache and the view!

Whew! Finally got up here to make the find - I was unsuccessful last time I looked and had to widen the search. You know, it doesn't matter that you cover every inch of the area if you're looking in the wrong spot... The puzzle part was no problem compared to the search for the final! Had worked out different steps of this one over the years, keeping some notes but not getting to the next waypoint for a long time, and couldn't find the final last year before I had surgery. Came up to try again today, and walked a little extra as the parking area was still gated off, but made the find and was happy with the smiley. Thanks for all the fun!

Joint puzzle solving effort with animjason. Guess I didn't pass the GED by myself BlackEye. I'd bump the terrain to a 4. Very glad to get this one off the list!

Hasn't been found in TWO YEARS. Sassydil and I solved this awhile back and came to get day before my 9 month streak to celebrate. Fun times! Would bump up terrain for sure!
