The first of the "Ghost" town caches. A short climb which is easy. The elevation is 10,017.
To save a little frustration - take Co 72 west out of Nederland and look for the sign for Caribou. Its a dirt road that can be pretty rough in some places, but any vehicle can make it. This is an old silver mining town, and at the top of the mountain the old mine trailings can be seen, in the old townsite itself, the rock walls of the old Hotel and Assayers Office are still there. The cache originally contained: Watertight match box Keyring pocket knife Blue lightstick Red Light stick Silly Putty Toy car (2000 Chevy SSR Concept) Matchbox Egg-mobile Hotwheels Car Jax set Fun Saver camera - Take your pic at the site and note the frame number in the log, and I will post the pics. Travel bug - Hug Bug TB2750. Its wrapped around a blue Hug Me bear, and the two should travel together. Have fun. 11/15/02: I have added a picture of how Caribou looked in 1886. Pictures from the first camera have been put up. If anyone is misidentified or not identified, please let me know and I will make the changes. A new camera is in the cache.

Today we drove from Boulder via Estes Park to Rocky Mountain National Park. During our day trip we also came By. On the way we enjoyed the beautiful nature with wonderful views and the first snow. It was a great day.

Long day 4 wheeling with the event attendees, then a 5 mile hike on our own & then stopped to find this one near the old buildings. I dropped a TB.

We cached our way up Lefthand Canyon to the Morning meet and greet. Off-Road? Event. At the event we were discussing about the 4X4 caches everyone wanted to do after the event. We had already gathered some caches that we wanted to get done up to and around Brainard Lake so we parted ways. We thought we might run into everyone once we completed what we wanted to do and sure enough we saw the group on the Caribou Trail. We joined waawhoo, GotYour6, Memfis Mafia, Back Country Horsemen, and Honeybuzzed to complete the trail. We had a great time 4 wheeling, caching and enjoying the mountain weather. We replaced a few caches that had numerous DNF's and one that had a broken container and no log. Signed some of the logs with our stamp and some with the group of Tobin's Event. NIce climb to this one with some great views. TNLN, TFTC

Being Dutch, geocaching in Nederland Colorado is special.
Decided to try this trail on a cold November afternoon.
Found most caches and skipped a few because of too much snow on the ground.
Enjoyed the hunt very much.
Thanks for hiding.
Great cache, but freezing cold up here.
Last one on the trail up.
Gets a Favo for the drive up and the view.

#37296 Found while out for a hike with a couple of friends today while visiting Colorado for the weekend. They were both very gracious to tolerate my caching addiction on this cold and snowy day up in the mountains. Everything started out pleasant enough, but by the time we turned around, the wind had picked up and turned the gentle flurries into a minor blizzard on the way back to the car. We all were definitely glad to get back into the car and head back to Boulder for some food and beer. This was the last cache that we found for the day as we were heading down the road from the parking area. The wind really picked up was we got out of the car to make this find just a little more miserable, but in the end, we were successful. Signed in and headed off down the road. TFTC

This was a really fun one, and a great history lesson/adventure. Had fun exploring the old stone buildings and pretending to be cowboys with our kids. Lots of nice wildflowers and ripe berries too, gooseberry, raspberry and currants all growing in the ruins of the old hotel made for a nice snack! Thanks for the historic photos, it really helps put the area in context compared to what's there now. TFTC!

We opted for a quick one-day outing this holiday weekend. We saw all the caches on the map for this region & decided to check it out! We got our 500th find today, a big accomplishment for our family. Thanks for the placement of this one in a beautiful area!
