Tornados, who would of thought that they would occur in Colorado Springs proper, but they do occur. In June of 1979 I remember watching the clouds over Manitou spinning which was very unusually. After awhile I started to see the clouds reach for the ground and I watched in fascination. I soon realized that I was watching a Tornado form and I eventually decided it was time to seek shelter. The Tornado did touchdown, once in Manitou where it ripped up some old trees in a park and then again near this cache location where it damaged a few buildings. Other establishments that have disappeared (although not related to the tornado) are PPNB, The Hall Of Presidents Wax Museum (across the street) and the old Van Briggle Pottery which finally went under several years ago.
