Pops the Triceratops is the name of Weld County’s official fossil.  In 1982, the first complete skull of a triceratops was found in northern Weld County on land owned by Mr. and Mrs. Roland Mapelli.  The Mapelli family donated the fossil to Weld County Government in 1986 so all residents could enjoy this amazing find.  For more than 30 years, Pops (the name Weld County employees gave the fossil) has greeted visitors to the Weld County Centennial Center and currently the Weld County Administration Building, where you may visit the fossil in person.  Just inside this building during working hours. 8-5 Monday - Friday.   Come in and see him.

This is a fun geocache for families to find a small prize and more information about this amazing fossil. www.discoverweld.com/Pops-the-Triceratops

The placement of the cache has been approved by the Weld County Board of Commissioners.

If security comes by to check on you let them know you’re a Geocacher.

I've been super busy lately, but needed a cache for June, so I had to go after this new one. Turned out to be great! Loved the artwork and history. Even went in to meet Pops. Thanks for the fun.
