Takes more than an hour  Scenic view  Significant hike  Difficult climbing  Cliff / falling rocks  Long Hike (+10km)

Located near the top of Cookstove Mountain, hence the name. The final quarter mile is difficult.

This cache is placed in tribute to kriskook, the owner of the original cache at this spot - GCJEW4 Stove Top.  I hiked up again and found his First Aid container still in perfect shape, so left it in place. I left the original logbook in the cache as it makes for interesting reading.

Use a topo map to plan your route once you leave the trail.  Best approach is from the northwest, directly uphill from GCG471 Cabin above St. Mary's Falls. Suggested parking at Helen Hunt Falls. Hike up past St. Mary's Falls and leave the trail when northwest of the cache. With 4WD, you can also approach from Rd. 381 southwest of the cache.

Yay- I made it back to sign the log again- for real for this incarnation! It was an all- St Mary's Falls route this time; both in and out. A pretty effective* way to go about it on such a gorgeous day- the day after my whole Barr Camp caching thing. I'm sure it's never been nicer when I've been on top of someplace tall in the Pike's region. With polarized glasses I bet I was looking clear into Kansas... but they wouldn't help either phone or gps get a pic to do it justice.

(* effective at keeping me in a recliner tomorrow, that is BigSmile )

I was looking for a "spring training" hike and this morning I remembered this one. I came up from St. Marys Falls and made a nice day of it. It's fun to read the old logs and hard to believe that it has been over 5 years since I was last up here. I swapped out both the TBs. TFTC

Was with the CO when he installed this cache. Wow, Hartsdale is in way better shape than I am! Anyone who is able to just take a break for a hike like this has my admiration. Anyway, I'm glad that someone restoked this cache and that I didn't have to do it twice!

Java Chip had been eyeing this one for a few months so when she had sometime off we committed to making the find and we were not disappointed. Nice trip and great views! After we made the find we explored the top for about half an hour before we had to get back to civilization. TFTC!
