There is a very nice ponderosa pine tree that is near the top of the first little peak. The cache is a small camouflaged jar placed under some rocks at the base of that tree. There is no pen, so please bring your own.
This cache is not for the faint of heart. It is off the trail and up toward the ridge. Park at the trailhead for the Morrison Slide and Red Rocks Trail. Take the Morrison Slide Trail up to the plateau. The coordinates are approximately N 39 40.638 W 105 12.511. Look west toward the ridge. I walked across the meadow toward the lower part of the ridge, then headed south from there. It is not so steep going that way.
Be aware that this is rattlesnake country and I saw one on my way down from the peak. Take plenty of water. Be aware of the course that you choose especially if you decide to go up to Morrison Peak from there. The ridge is very sharp. You don't need to go near the rocky areas to retrieve this cache.
The views from this area are beautiful. If you go to the top of the nearby ridge, you will have a great view to the west, too. Just be careful while you are off trail.
I do not recommend coming this way to access the caches up on the top of Mt. Morrison because I ran into a large fenced area around the antennae up on the top.
