Cache hidden in an old abandoned park.  Parking located off Winter Park Drive.

The Blue Star Memorial Program honors all men and women that serve in the United States Armed Services. This program began with the planting of 8,000 Dogwood trees by the New Jersey Council of Garden Clubs in 1944 as a living memorial to veterans of World War II. In 1945, the National Council of State Garden Clubs adopted this program and began a Blue Star Highway system that covers thousands of miles across the Continental United States, Alaska and Hawaii. A large metal Blue Star Memorial Highway Marker was placed at appropriate locations along the way. An old map list this site as Blue Star Picnic Ground. Blue Star sign can be logged on www.waymarking.com

We considered why this site might be abandoned. Came up with 3 possible ideas: could never make this handicapped accessible, road conditions improved enough that a rest area was no longer needed here, or that the increase of business and nps sites meant it wasn't being used anymore. Dunno which if any were the deciding factors, but it was interesting to consider. Quick find with great coords. Tftc

Took way longer than it should have, but eventually the coordinates held true. Clever hide, tftc.

We were so looking forward to attending and caching our way to and around the Celebrating Historic Grand Lake Event. We had received an email last night from one of the hosts that Trail Ridge Road was closed due to ice and snow, and that the event might be canceled. Mr SDC informed me that we weren't taking Trail Ridge Road to get to Grand Lake. I emailed the host back to let her know and she made arrangements to have another host there in the event we decided to chance the weather spoiling our day. We are so glad we went ahead with our plans as we had an amazing day caching and enjoying the end of the changing of the Aspens BigSmile. The weather started out a bit iffy with some light rain and fog but cleared up nicely as we got deeper in the mountains. We managed to grab most of the Across The Divide GeoTour 2018 caches along with some others. Very nice hide and camo, SL, TNLN, TFTC

Thank you GreencoreOutfitters for placing this cache for our enjoyment.

TFTC! Nice hide in the woods. Definitely an under cover operation!
