Hike the Twin Sisters!

Twin Sisters Mountain’s north-south ridgeline runs nearly two miles along Rocky Mountain National Park’s eastern boundary. Two adjacent summits – the Twin Sisters Peaks - rise subtly above its narrow ridgeline with intimate views of nearby Longs Peak, Mt Meeker, Estes Cone and much of Rocky Mountain National Park’s Continental Divide.

Lodgepole are gradually replaced by fir and spruce as you pass through 10,100’ (1.7 miles), noticeably shrinking in size and density above 10,600’ (2.3 miles). Upon reaching treeline (3.0 miles : 11,050’) the northward trail pushes steeply up an exposed, well defined path. Here you’ll have your first clear view of the Twin Sisters Peaks.

The trail winds its way to a small rocky saddle (3.45 miles : 11,368’) separating the east (11,428') and west (11,413') Twin Sisters Peaks. 360-degree views of the Continental Divide and Estes Park area from either summit are simply unparalleled.

Round-Trip Length: 7.2 miles
Start / End Elevation: 9,040' - 11,428' (11,428' max elevation)
Elevation Change: +2,388' net elevation gain (+2,477' total roundtrip elevation gain)
Skill Level: Grade 1 Class 2
Pet Regulations: No Dogs Allowed

How to get there

From Estes Park travel south on Highway 7 (Peak to Peak Scenic Byway). There is a large trailhead sign for the turn-off on the east side of Highway 7 (across from Lily Lake). Parking is available at the trailhead and along the road.

Cache information

Cache is located on the higher of the two peaks. Once you reach the summit travel east down the summit ridge to the cache location.
You will need to bring a pencil. I forgot one and left a pen, but that will probably be frozen most the year.

There is a Benchmark at the summit (LL1348). Click here to log it.

Nice find with even nicer views! I hid it a bit better than found, the last log in the book from 9/30/17 said the person found it by accident and it was quite exposed. TFTC and +1 fav for the incredible hike!

Rainy forecast, so headed out early in the morning to climb this peak. Virtually no muggles on the trail today. Foggy all the way up and a rock scramble with snow the last 200 feet. Finding the geocache took a little bit of a searching because of the snow between the rocks covering the cache. Came across the benchmark first and finally the cache, which is in good shape. The sun peaked through for a couple of minutes with all the fog below. Had a fun time and got some good pictures. TNLNSL. Thanks for placing this high-altitude cache.
