Was hoping for an FTF, but will have to be content with STF. The trail goes right to the top; once near GZ, the hint was helpful. No cliff dangling needed, but did need to venture a bit off the top. Thanks for a great hike and neat location, to say nothing about that nose! #6994

I saw this interesting cache soon after its publication, and got excited about it. The photo was riveting, and the general location is one of my favorite areas in Lory State Park. But as I studied things, it became apparent that the coordinates given for the cache location did not match the overall description of the cache’s position. I contacted the CO and suggested some things that could correct the problem. He grabbed onto the dialog very positively, and made the appropriate revisions that were published late-morning, today. Yesterday I had calculated and verified the actual coordinates so planned to make the hike this morning with my puppies Orizaba and Chimborazo. We headed out from parking a bit later than I had hoped, so got caught in the 90+ degree heat of the day. Lots of other hikers (and dogs) were also along the trail suffering from the heat!
The cache location is indeed an interesting one, and warrants the suggested picnic or relaxation activities after making the find. A superb view from the general cache vicinity, and unlike the main trail that was used by many hikers this morning, I saw no one in the general area of the cache. My first impression of the great photo on the cache page was that of a lizard head and upper trunk, with the head complete with the sharp mouth line of a lizard. But I could also easily surmise a witch’s nose from the photo, just as I did in the full-on field view! Pretty cool! rlallo63 has placed a very secure cache container. It’s not going anywhere! And it is well appointed with a couple of nice trade items and a great sign-in notebook. It was a pleasure signing the log book in the {FTF} position! This cache deserves the attention of geocachers who treasure mountain caches. It gets a Favorite point from me, and kudos to the CO. I mistakenly dated my log note 6-10 instead of 6-12.
On a final note, the log book indicated the cache is dedicated to a deceased favorite dog. When I think of the 12 dogs I’ve owned and loved over my years, and how I’ve felt after the deaths of the first 10 of these, I have great empathy for rlallo63 in his loss.
