A regular size cache at a nice overview at the start of a
little known trail.
This is an ammo can placed at a beautiful overlook near the start
of a little known hiking trail. This trail is three miles one way
and follows West Monument creek to its headwaters where there is a
very pretty pond. Nice rock formations follow the creek. At one
point there is a split in the trail and you want to stay in the
larger drainage to the left if you want to hike the full trail. The
start of the hiking trail is at N39 04.1348 W104 59.4666. The cache
can be reached just off of Mount Herman Road (reachable from either
Woodland Park or Monument) Parking off of Mount Herman road is
recommended at N39 03.443 W104 59.496. From the parking area there
is a road going directly to the trail head.
The cache has been stocked with swag items so there are some nice
items for all age groups.
The coordinates were averaged using a Delorme PN60 with an
estimate position error of 8 feet. (N39 04.1796 W104 59.5195)
(This cache is named after Harry who joined our family and
geocaching team May of 2010 via adoption from the Gabriel
Foundation. He has a leg that doesn't work but joins us on many of
travels and climbs. He particularly likes high views and has
enriched our lives with his enthusiasm and can-do spirit. He
inspires us everyday!)
