The large wooden structure that sits along Hwy 131 was once a conveyor that aided one of Routt County's first "cash crops" -- LETTUCE! Image as you drive along this stretch of highway, the fields being planted in neat rows of lettuce! From the early 1920's to the early 1950's, this conveyor actually helped load ice on trains -- ice being stored in the Espy Ice Sheds near here. The ice was used for keeping the lettuce cold and fresh on the trains while it was being shipped to California, Arizona and even India! By the early 1950's, the Routt County lettuce crops were becoming a "thing of the past" -- a victim of modern refrigeration technology which made getting lettuce from places like California (with it's longer growing seasons etc.) a much more economical adventure.
The cache is obviously NOT located on Hwy 131 for safety reasons! To get to the cache take County Road 6 -- directly across Hwy 131 from County Road 3 (which takes you to the National Forest, Gardner Reservoir and Stillwater Reservoir). Stay to the right. Go almost directly across the hay meadow from the conveyor!
You're looking for a camo'd, larger pill bottle. This cache may, or may not be available during the winter due to snow -- some winters it will definitely be available, some it will not!
