Are you an Outdoorsy Person who loves to camp, hike, hunt, photograph stuff, and get away from the rat race for a few days? Then you will love this cache at altitude 7279' in remote NW Colorado OK . . . so you CAN'T hunt unless you draw a permit but the outdoorsy person has unlimited resources for enjoying the most wonderful weekend or week that they could ever imagine. You will need to bring warm clothes along with your summer wear, cuz it can get really cold at night after the sun goes down. Where I placed the geocache is a perfect place to camp in your tent or park your camper. Nobody knows just who carved a chair out of an old stump, but you can sit there and watch for deer, elk, and all kinds of wildlife, if you spot a bear you might want to hop in your camper. (Highly unlikely, but there have been bears on the mountain - usually up higher) There are so many birds singing happily in the beautiful ponderosa pines and lovely aspens. I've seen Blue Grouse in the area and don't be surprised if you happen to wake up in the night at the sound of a wolf howl. The history of the area is fabulous with tales of outlaws, pioneers, mining, and Native Americans. Make sure you bring a BLM map so you won't trespass on private property, however most of the property is public lands. There are lots of places to camp on this mountain. There are no fees for camping. It is great county to explore with ATV's, horses, jeeps etc. In the fall you can get your fill of all kinds of wild berries for jelly making. That is if you can get there before the elk and birds. You will be amazed at all the wildflowers. I believe that my geocache is the first one to be placed on Douglas Mountain. Perhaps you will find a neat spot to hide one of your own. Enjoy your adventure. The geocache is in a soup thermos along with several goodies, a log with pencil and geocaching rules. The outside of the thermos has the GEOCACH Logo on it. There is a travel bug attached to a little blue bear. I chose the bear because further on up the road several miles, a friend of mine has a cabin and one winter, a bear broke into the cabin and left his muddy paw prints all over the beams between the kitchen and living room. He wouldn't let his wife wash them off, and loved showing them to everyone who came to visit. The bear had a great time breaking open cans and other food items and the cabin was quite a mess. DON'T FORGET YOUR CAMERA! This is very pristine remote primitive country so there will NOT be bathroom facilities or water available. You have to bring your own. But please DO NOT LITTER and carry your trash back out with you. HAVE FUN! You might prefer to leave your brand new car home and bring your truck or jeep. I have seen cars on the mountain, but the road can get a little rough in places and is rarely maintained. You probably won't be able to geocache here in the wintertime unless you have a snowmobile, as the road is not maintained and the snow can get very deep. You adventure begins . . . .
