I'm always looking for caches that can help finish up another fizzy loop. Right now I'm stuck with needing a 1-D, 5-T. They seem to be few and far between.
Of course, I can't claim this one, but maybe you can. I'm rating it a 5-T because it's a long hike up to the ridge (which is probably like 3.5 T). Then you go down a bit on 4.0 T. And finally, a short tree climb to add in that additional 1T, for the total of 5.0 T.
You should be able to see the cache quite well from the rock outcropping that is just above the tree it is in. And for sure from the foot of the tree. Really, it's not too far up, either.

05/23/2022 By Denali41 I made the mistake of checking my email just before bed last night and learned about this new cache. Its publication disrupted my plans for today! The 1D/5T star combination for a cache is a rare one, and according to my records there has been no such star combination ever published in the past in Larimer County. I’ve been trying to complete a Fizzy matrix with caches found only in this county, and this combo is only one of four of the 81 that I still need. Moreover, getting a {FTF} on this combo would be nice, as I only have one or two others. I checked the National Weather Service forecast but things didn’t look promising: winds and rain through the night up there and continued rain this morning. But I got my day pack ready anyway, just in case. Up this morning early, with light drizzle here. Almost gave it a pass but checked further and learned the forecast was for improvement. Then checked the Bobcat parking lot webcam and things looked pretty good. Finally checked the Natural Areas website and learned that the trails were open!
So off I went. A good move, because on the entire 8-mile RT hike I was only sprinkled on for a couple of brief periods. I enjoy hiking the Ginny Trail to the ridge top, and this time was no exception. I had this entire trail segment to myself this morning, which is unusual in this popular Natural Area! At the top of Bobcat Ridge I took my first rest, ate a sandwich, and then began my short descent on the west side to the cache vicinity. Yes, the container was easily visible from a distance, and the tree climb wasn’t the problem I was anticipating with wet branches. I opened the container and as expected found a blank log. Very happy to have the “first” on this great cache after the fun adventure of getting up here on a wet trail. I returned to the top and ate the rest of my brunch before setting off down the trail. I’ve hiked this great trail perhaps a dozen times through the years. Today, as I descended, I checked on the status of six of my caches that were placed long ago in USFS parcels that are outside the boundaries of the natural area. All were in fine condition.
Come On Up deserves and gets a Favorite point.
Thanks for this unexpected outing, Millerite! I believe I am up to date on finding the fun caches you’ve been placing since your return to the area!
