This is a short multi-cache. The coordinates posted will lead you to a small camo pill bottle located in a group of trees that were planted by the Girl Scouts in 1991 (Red Rocks 50th anniversary). The bottle contains the coordinates for the actual cache which is located within 500 feet. The pill bottle is pretty easy to get to but the cache container might require a little more effort. The cache name refers partially to the cache container. Both containers are covered in digital camo.
Back in the summer of 1999, I would take Chauncy (my neighbor's Golden Retriever) for a swim nearly every day in Bear Creek, just south of Red Rocks in Morrison, Colorado. In July, I noticed a black lab was hanging out there nearly every day. After a few more visits to the park that month, I realized the dog was by himself and obviously was a stray. One day, he followed Chauncy and me on a 5 mile hike up Mt. Falcon and then back to our house in Morrison. He decided to hang out in my backyard for a week, hiding in the bushes. Eventually we welcomed him into our home. We named him Midnight since his coat was as dark as the night. He was a good boy who hiked thousands of miles with me over the years. In the summer months, he sometimes got hot in the sun and would take a break in the shade of the trees along the trail. Once he cooled off a bit, we could continue on. If he was a good boy, he would receive a special "Midnight Snack" as a reward. He loved dog biscuits, cheese and especially peanut butter! On September 29, 2009, I was home sick and Midnight stayed by my side all day. Later in the day, I realized Midnight wasn't feeling so well himself so I had a neighbor help me rush him to the vet. The vet examined him and gave him some pain reliever and an IV. They decided to do an ultrasound the following day. Unfortunately, early the next morning, Midnight left us. He had slipped away during the night due to internal hemorrhaging. :'-( I've placed this cache at this location since it's close to the spot where I first saw Midnight playing in Morrison Park back in 1999. If you go to the view waypoint listed, you can look southeast and see Morrison Park down below Highway 74. Bear Creek flows along the park and you'll also see what used to be the CCC camp. This camp is where workers lived while Red Rocks Amphitheater was being constructed back in the 1930s. Today it is the headquarters for Denver Mountain Parks.

The cache initially contains the Midnight! Travel Bug (ready to begin his journey around the world), a log book, a compass/thermometer keychain (FTF?) and some other trinkets.

NOTE: If there's a concert at Red Rocks, the entrance closest to the cache might be closed. Mt. Morrison hikers will sometimes park outside the gate (and you don't really have to go past the gate for this cache) but parking there on concert nights might be discouraged..

Congrats to sepfind for the FTF!

Found waypoint 1 quickly.
Got to GZ and spent 30 minutes searching every option.
But no luck finding the cache.

Catching up on some logs from earlier this year. I am down under seven months and less than 600 to continue to log. Yippee!

Found with heh324, DimensionGarret, Landen24 and weasel311 while we were working on dates needed for the mentioned geocachers. Thanks for adding to the fun of our day.

Found GC2900Y - Midnight's Snack on April 27, 2018 using Cachly for iOS.

Some may call me seriously mentally ill. Some may state that I am in a state of mind that prevents social interaction. Some may say I am in a state of mind that prevents normal perception and or behavior. I prefer to say that I tend to do the same thing over and over again, but I expect different results. That being said, I believe we only live one life and I am trying to make the best of it. I thank you, MorrisonHiker for placing a fun geocache to fuel my "insanity" or addiction as I call it. I appreciate you bringing me here so that I can try and sign my alias on a piece of paper that you have hidden.

I look forward to finding more of your geocaches. I also look forward to potentially finding geocaches with you one day and sharing stories of our insanity... I mean hobby or addiction? Cheers!

What a beautiful story and tribute to Midnight!!

We were in the area on other business and for other caches when I read Midnight's story and told @PayMeCache we had to grab this one. (Anyone who knows PMC clearly knows there was zero arm twisting on my part to get him to detour to find a geocache!! Being a multi just made the conversation that much quicker and easier.) As the gang headed to stage one we could hear someone at Red Rocks doing their sound check for whatever this evening's event is. (I stopped logging to go look it up - tonight's performance is by Vulfpeck) Anyway, stage one was easily discovered, and as the cache description reads Stage 2 is not far away and was also quickly in hand. Lots of names were signed and we decided it was time to call it a day as everyone was getting tired (and maybe just a wee bit cranky, but you didn't hear that from me). TFTC

I stopped by this one after grabbing a new hide nearby, on the way to another open space.

Thanks for a fun multi to hunt for!

Picked this one up while in the local area. It wasn't midnight, but it was dark when I arrived so I had extra fun on the hunt. In fact, I had double the fun since my phone fell out of my pocket, and I didn't notice until about 40min after I left GZ. I had the opportunity to return for another hunt; fortunately I was FTF for my phone. Thanks to the CO for placing this nice cache for everyone to find, TFTC.

After our drive from NoCo to the Morrison area we were chomping at the opportunity to begin our caching adventures. This was our first cache of the day, and it started things off nicely for icezebra11, my puppy Orizaba, and me. I enjoy multis, and this one didn't disappoint. Thanks for it, MorrisonHiker!
