I great family hike of moderate terain with superb views of this magnificent rock structure!

Greyrock Mountian located 15 miles west of Ft. Collins, CO. on Colorado Hwy 14, in Arapaho-Roosevelt National Forest. Directions from Fort Collins take US. 287 north to junction with Colorado 14 west. Take Colorado 14 West for 8.4 miles to the trailhead were there's approx. 39 vehicle spots for parking, but get there early to claim a spot as they fill up quickly in early spring and summer.

Begin your journey by crossing the Poudre river  at the  marked trailhead, follow the trail for approx 3/4mile to where a junction is, the west trail( Meadow's trail #947) is longer but slightly less strenous and rejoins the main trail about 2.6 miles later. Trail #946 (Summit trail) turns North is a little more strenous for 1.7 miles. Whatever trail you deicide you will have to make your way to the meadows area where you'll have to hike north through the meadow with another slight elevation gain to the cache location.

I decided to to place this cache because it is a rather interesting rock feature, I came upon it while doing the Western Profiles series of Greyrock one morning with a caching partner ArkF, on the descent from" Aguille du Grerock" having taken the same route back from which we came I would of missed this neat place completely. With my recent interest with mushrooms, I've become a sort of mycophile and thought this whole cache theme is quite appropriate, with the decent rains of early May, it has brought out a abundace of these little fungi you may see some while on this hike for a little longer but will soon disappear. Please Don't pick any mushrooms for consumption unless your obsolutly sure of what there are, the orange/yellow I spotted in this trip i believe to be "Jakolaterns" which would cause severe intestinal distress! Have fun on your hike to the Greyrock area

Thank you for the geocache. A good friend passed away two days ago and I needed some incentive to get outside and be alone with my thoughts. This cache combined with a low smoke day made for a much needed adventure.

Spent the day hiking up here Pixel Magic and Barasaur to grab a few earth and regular caches. Realy enjoyed the day up here. This is a very interesting location according to my GPS. We covered close to 10 miles and about 8 hours on our trip up here just taking in all the scenery. We will have to plan another hike up here to grab some more of the profile caches. Thanks, tinytuttle for the great hide!

Went for a hike with Pixel Magic and Waawhoo around Gray Rock. Had a great day hiking with slightly cloudy skies and around 50 degrees. We covered around 10 miles in our cache hunting with over 3000 feet elevation gain throughout our hike. Thanks for the fun day walking around in the mountains.

I wanted a decent hike today to aid in my recovery--so I decided to do the Greyrock Meadows loop and check on a couple of my owned caches along the way. Of course once to the meadow, it was very attractive to work my way to its north end and find this nice cache. The recent snow storm left a lot of snow in the area, which has just melted. So the meadow was waterlogged and the traverse north from the trail and the return back south took some time in order to avoid the worst of the wet areas. The rock is a beautiful one and the cache was easily found. Thanks for this, tinytuttle. My puppy Orizaba had a marvelous outing with me around the hiking circuit. I hid a cache at one of her favorite lookouts--wow, I will soon submit a cache in the Greyrock Mountain area that is NOT a part of the Profile series!

Ah, sweet redemption! It was a gorgeous day with temps in the 50s on the Greyrock trail. I needed to get some exercise for the legs today so I decided to go try one more time for this cache. I thought the wind was supposed to blow today so I just planned to do the loop with the added out and back for this cache. I headed up the main trail anticipating that I'd just continue on down the hill when I reached the Meadows trail at the upper intersection. But when I got there the wind was just a nice breeze so I took a right turn and headed up to the peak. With the last little scramble I was standing on the top just a little after noon and while there was some breeze, it wasn't enough to make me pull out my shell from my pack. I always enjoy the views from this spot and today was no different.

After a bit on the top, and with the obligatory pictures taken, I headed back down the "hill." When I reached the trail junction I hung a right for the Meadows. It wasn't too long and I arrived at the familiar rock. My GPSr led me to the same tree that it wanted me to search near the previous time I the last time I was here. This time was much different than the last. It only took a couple minutes and the cache was in hand. Wow, I know I was within inches of it several times the day I came up empty. I was so close then I don't know how I missed it. But, today I was able to reel it in and sign the log. Then I ate a bit and headed back to the Meadows trail, following it back to the parking area and completing the Greyrock loop.

Thanks tinytuttle for placing this cache near this really unique feature!!! I love mushrooms on about anything but I'm hoping the ones you are growing taste a little better than this one! Wink
