Takes more than an hour  Scenic view  Cliff / falling rocks  Hunting  Not Wheelchair accessible  Parking available  No Drinking water nearby  No Public restrooms nearby  No Telephone nearby  Camping available

This cache is located near the top of Ormes Peak, 9727 ft., in the Pike National Forest. You can see Rampart Reservoir 2.25 miles to the northwest. There is no trail to the top.
There are two basic ways of doing this peak. You can start on either the southwest side or the southeast side (which is good for doing a few other caches in the area) and head for the southern ridge. Some areas are more thickly forested, and steep with cliffs, and boulders. So, if you want to, you can make it more difficult. You can do the cache without any significant exposure to cliffs.

Take Forest Service road 303 (Northfield Reservoir Road) to FS road 302. FSR 302 goes around the south side of Ormes Peak to the east side and heads north to a dead end. The hills on this road have many water cuts so a 4wd is recommended. If you have a low clearance vehicle you can park on the side of the road at the beginning of FSR 302. The first hill is just ahead – expect the road to get worse.

It’s about 0.4 miles to the cache going up the east side with about 410 ft. of gain.

It’s about 1.25 miles from the beginning of FSR 302 to the camp road spur, a gain of about 140 ft. and a loss of about 210 ft. To go up the southwest side, start with this road spur.

It’s about 0.4 miles to the cache going up the west side with about 360 ft. of gain (or less if you drive part way up the road). So, if you hike from the beginning of FSR 302, it’s about 1.7 miles and 500 ft. of gain to the cache. From point REND a primitive trail heads north along the west side of the peak. This route is NOT recommended.

Wasn't even looking for a cache. Just out for a hike for #optoutside black friday. Walking around and there it was. Signed the log and deposited a foreign coin inside.

Somehow, looking at Ormes Peak from afar, we thought it would be a much more difficult hike! We took the east approach and found the suggested way points a big help. The container is awesome and is holding up nice, despite some little critters chewing into it. Too bad that there was not even one single swag item in it. We dropped off a couple of little trade items for the next cacher. The views were outstanding and must have been even more beautiful before the fire. We are happy that we chose this cache to be our 700th find! Thanks for getting us up here.

This was a trip for some back.country fun that happen to have a few caches along the way. We loaded up the UTV, grabbed the kid from camp, and off we went! We drove up to the trail head and began our climb. A much easier route than one i took a few years earlier. We got to gz and were greeted by a cache with simply breath taking views and a bit of weather that made it even more incredible. Thank you for hiding this in such a great location. Cheers. T:TB

I thought I would come up here and find a few caches in the general area. I didn't have to search too long before I found the well camoed container. I was surprised to find puzzle pieces to Pike's Cave. I didn't know this cache was one of the requirements for Pike's Cave, so I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the puzzle piece. Two more pieces to go and I will have a complete set. Thanks for the hike!

Another cache on this great Guy Fawkes and Doc Brown day! Found while in the area with sassydil for some hiking now that this is open again. This was the main target for the day! Thanks for keeping this one around. Loved the camo and the rock climbing nearby. Great views even with the burn area. Fave. Will pick up TBs when I get home, they are in my pack still.

Most excellent short hike! Nice camo and the views were great. Rampart Range Road will likely be closed again from December to April so get here while the getting is good. I'm glad the fire spared this particular spot. I "dropped" 3 trackables that animjason promptly retrieved. did not want to take the chance of them getting stranded.
