Wanted to do something special for my 100th find, so loaded up the list of 5/5s in the area. Turns out Dud&Plato had never grabbed this one before so we started making some plans. I'm not as interested in traditional caches, but this one definitely intrigued me enough to make it my 100th find.

We set out this morning with an extra special tool to help make the find easier, but we ended up leaving it the car as we drove by the lair. It might have been a choice we probably would have regretted, but it seems like the alligator has moved this cache a bit. I'm guessing he is a bit tired of fighting off intruders.

I completely passed the cache as I wasn't even going to start looking till I'd gotten closer to the coordinates. But Dud&Plato spotted it. We walked further into the alligators lair, but weren't sure just how far to go or if we would find the proper spot. Plus we didn't really want to wrestle the alligator, so we returned it back to the spot we found it in. Still a really fun experience! I'm glad to mark it as number 100.

Hum, this one has an interesting story involved I suppose! Trying to do every bit of homework I could before coming out to this one, I actually had a decent idea of what I would be up against. I even had a TOTT ready to go. Finding the right approach, I reconsidered the need for it, and actually decided to go hunt for this one without it. Before diving in to tackle the alligator, made sure to survey the situation at the coordinates. Yeah, I can see how this still was going to be a challenge - if the 5/5 didn't give that away already that is. And so the quest started. Not nearly as bad as I thought, but I'm glad my geosenses were in proper order! After a short walk, our approach resulted in... a much quicker find than expected.

I have a strong strong suspicion that this alligator has migrated, so I made sure to check the log to make sure it wasn't a throwdown or a mistake. Sure enough, there are the finders names. My theory is that someone didn't want to hunt this alligator, sent someone else to do the dirty work, and upon the return trip didn't feel like returning to the proper lair and left it where it is now.... Not to be deterred, and wanting to see where GZ was from another angle, the quest wasn't over yet and proceeded onward to see.

Sadly, as I can't be sure where this one was originally placed, I didn't move it from the location I found it. It's in good shape and was dry, but nowhere near the posted coordinates. As the cache and log are in good shape, I'll not flag this one, but the CO may want to consider a trip back to the lair. I made sure to snap a few pictures of its current location if the references are needed. A really fun experience and glad we pushed on to the end of the quest despite the quicker find. TFTC|SL

Our Colorado vacation continued today with a drive from Estes Park to Ft Collins. After dropping off Mrs RC at our lodging, I set out to find a few more caches before calling it a day.

It's been awhile since I attempted a cache like this one. Actually, I think the last one may have been during a previous Colorado trip. Thankfully, it appears the alligator's turf has been pretty dry lately. That made for a fairly uneventful visit into its lair. Log is a bit moist, but still able to sign. TFTC!

Oh my, I just saw giacaches wonderful and detailed log. Love her so much! We found this one together and I have to admit, I don’t think I would’ve found it without her. She’s one determined cacher. What a great feeling to eventually make the grab though. Thanks so much for the hide!

Backstory: My sister (beluga_squad) moved to Fort Collins from Minnesota about a month ago with her husband. Anticipating she may be a little homesick, I sent her a little care package that included a printed list of all the geocaches near their new home, complete with my handwritten thoughts and suggestions on which ones may be fun to find while exploring new neighborhoods. I was so surprised to see the closest cache was a 5/5 - and noted that I was excited to attempt it when I came to visit. I tried to do a little research on the cache page, but the CO and past finders have helped keep this fun one a mystery.

Present: My muggle love and I stayed with beluga_squad (and her muggle love) last night and set out this morning to GZ. I was hopeful, yet unsure whether we had a shot - but I wore my alligator hunting shirt nonetheless (see photo). After some speculation and walking around, we discovered a possible route. My muggle love stayed behind, and beluga_squad and I set off to battle. I see why it’s a 5/5! I’m so happy I got to find this one with my sister. What a fun journey and a great memory for both of us! It gets a favorite point from me. TFTC!

Note: log is slightly damp, but we were able to sign!

Tftc found with artguru20. This one deserves a story. Artguru20 spotted it first. We asked each other how to get this because we definately didnt have any tools of the trade. So we walked around to search for other ways to get it. In the end we moved some things around and I went down and conquered some tight spaces fears. I played monkey bars over the floor is lava. Not so bad.

What a night! Chuppalloop and I weren't exactly sure what we were going to find upon entering gz. Seemed like we were almost in the wrong place for a 5/5. Then the alligator made itself apparent. I spotted it first as it reared its ugly head toward me. I kept my light shining on it to distract it, while chuppalloop used his parkour skills to maneuver to the cache. I signed it quickly so chuppalloop would have enough strength to make his way back. Pretty sure we could have tackled this one a slightly different way, so as not to have angered the beast, but we've been known to not do things the easy way. Both of us made it out alive with all of our limbs and we even managed to rescue a micro ftf trackable to pass along. TFTC, snipermedic. P.S. you crazy!

Finally got a chance to go back and sign the log. Snipermedic waited and cheered for me to make sure the alligators didn’t eat me. Can’t really say that I enjoyed this one... my knees are killing me. Tftc sl dl13
