On March 11, 2012, we left our house early in the morning, with the intent of some caching and hiking to the NE of the springs.  It was a seasonally warm morning and not a cloud in the sky.  We loaded up the dogs and headed out.

We were headed southbound on 83 out of Parker and the pastures were greeing up, trees were getting their leaves, and the mountains made for a great scenic ride.  As a matter of fact, we were talking about how pretty it was that day.  As we came up to the top of the hill and leveled off, all of a sudden it started to rain, and seconds later snow...next thing you know we were on 2+ inches of snow.

We slowed and the last time the speed was noted, we were traveling less than 30 MPH and slowing.  About a mile down the snow covered road, the vehicle started spinning and we did a 360 due to some black ice under the snow.  We regained control and hit another patch of black ice, this time doing a 180 before hitting the dirt shoulder of the road, causing us to roll, slow motion, into the ditch.

Fortunately, everyone was okay (we both walked away), including the dogs.  Fire and State Troopers were on the scene in less than five minutes.  Shortly after their arrival on scene, another car, about .25 miles North of us, hit black ice and also went into the ditch.  Then soon after the Trooper infromed us that another car to the South rolled as well.

The dogs got to get out of the elements by stiing in the fire engine.

The wrecker arrived and loaded the vehicle.  Just as the State Trooper was giving us a ride to a rental car agency, we noted that there was not one sign of snow or ice anywhere.  Gotta love Colorado weather!!!

I was out and about caching with herndonrd because I make him look good. He typically finds the caches while I look in all the wrong places. This was one of those typical occasions where I read off the description and/or prior logs and he simply ignores me and finds the cache. Hooray! After we did the whole sign and replace thing we celebrated our victory by heading back to the car and driving off to another one. Thanks for the fun hide and for getting me outside on such a beautiful day.

P. S. No animals (humans or otherwise) were harmed in the writing of this log.

Out caching with FeartheFish today which means a lot of "pull over here" and now I am signed up for 2 (or is it 20?) new challenges that I've never heard of. TFTC!

Wow, today was really windy but I decided to cache anyway. I had a terrific caching day, wore myself out! Thanks to all the COs who placed these for my geo-fun.

It was a bit chilly and windy today but I really wanted to do some caching. I hiked more than 8 miles around Lincoln Mountain Open Space Park and then found a few more on the way home. I made the find here at 4:44:00 PM. Thanks for the cache and for helping make today an even nicer day!
