The origins of Baseline Road go back to the mid-19th century when the Territories of Kansas and Nebraska were being debated in Congress. In 1854, the Kansas Nebraska Act was passed by Congress creating these two Territories and at the same time, terminating the Missouri Compromise. The boundary for these Territories was the 40th Parallel starting at the Missouri River in the East extending West to the Summit of the Rockies and the Eastern Border of Utah.

Later, in 1859, surveyors James Withrow and Jarret Todd were awarded a contract to survey along the 40th Parallel at a point 204 miles west of the Missouri River to the Summit of the Rockies. They set out on July 18, 1859 and completed the survey on September 10, 1859.

Further details about the survey are linked below. The Virtual Cache The Baseline GC9P8BC by redwoodmesa also contains information on this subject.

The cache contains a log only, no room for swag or trackables.

Nice hide and camo. I found a now archived cache here about a year ago and re-found it today as I was searching.

Lots of muggles in the area but just enough out of the way so not too obvious when trying to find it. Nice spot. Tftc.

Only had a few minutes to kill before a meeting, so stopped by real quick. Didn’t see it right away, logging to DNF to try again in the future!

I had to walk around in circles a few times to find this one. I found something that got me thinking and then I came up with it quickly. No homeless person today but a sleeping bag and jacket was present. Nice cache container. SL. TFTC

We were out running errands and saw this new cache was close-by since we were on our way to the Lafayette Walmart to pick-up an air filter for the car. Arrived at GZ and started searching when I looked to my left and saw a homeless guy about 4 feet from me and the bridge covered in a tarp catching some ZZZZ's. Not wanting to disturb him while I was searching, I gave FLM a call so he could quickly nudge me in the right direction, so I could get the hel out of there without having any confrontations. Very nice hide and camo, SL,TFTC

Scores a fav pt.
