Dogs  Difficult climbing  Short hike (less than 1km)

First hide of the season!

This is a quick little jaunt up a nice side canyon from the Poudre River and then a short rocky scramble.

The cache is named for my Leonberger dog "Scooter", who passed away suddenly in March.  He was a very good boy. ;_;

You're looking for a well-camo'd plastic bin that's roughly ammo can sized.

Be careful!

Congratulations to Pixel Magic on FTF, and thank you for a lovely log.

Found it after much bushwhacking and scrambling. Searched for quite a bit. GPS had trouble in the canyon. Husband made the final grab as it was a bit risky for me. He accidentally grabbed a cactus on the way up. Spent some time with tweezers removing the spines after we got back to the car. He seems ok now. So do be careful. Thanks for the cache.

Did some caching up Poudre Canyon this morning and stopped to find this tribute cache for Scooter. I was able to make a quick find on the container and sign the log. Then I stopped to remember the wonderful dogs that let me be part of their lives. One special dog that has gone to the great hunting grounds in the sky was our black lab Lady. She was a hunting fool! One time my friend and I were going duck hunting but not planning to take her along. My gear was in a pile with my gun leaning against the wall, action open (it was a pump). I had been extremely quiet getting ready that morning as it was well before first light and everyone was still sleeping, including Lady, . But when my friend came to pick me up and was helping me gather up my gear, he grabbed my shotgun by the forearm when he picked it up and the action closed. Lady heard that "ka-ching" and came storming down the stairs like the thundering herd, barking up a storm, dancing all over the place, and waking up everybody in the house. I can still see the sad look in her eyes when we left without her that early morning.

Another time my brother and I were going out to hunt doves and Lady was along with us. We parked the truck at sun-up and headed east to our spot into the sun that was just peaking over the horizon. Lady was out in front running around when my brother and I both saw it at the same time...a skunk! We both yelled "NOOOO" at the same time but it was too late. All we saw was this mist in the rising sun enveloping Lady. She took the full hit. Dove hunt over before it started. She came running back to us whimpering but of course we didn't want to be anywhere near her. That was one of the few times she had to ride in the bed of the truck and not in the cab on the way home. And it sure wasn't fun to clean her up enough that she could go back into the house. But we sure loved her and miss her!

Scooter is a handsome guy and looks like he was a great companion. Thanks Triggur for this wonderful tribute cache.

This was one of the more fun caches I found today, I hiked Hewlett Gulch then headed further up the canyon to find more caches. I went down the wrong trail first and noticed my distance to cache was getting longer! I found the correct path and made my way to the cache. The shelter was easy to spot but I had to get the right angle to find the cache. Unfortunately all that's left were tennis balls so I left them for someone with a dog. I have lost 2 dogs so I feel for you. Thanks for a great cache!

I was a little tired and hungry, but I couldn't resist the call of another cache. A fun scramble to the top, although we almost missed the cache! In this case "just one more step" was a good thing! Geodog puffs from New Mexico wanted to visit Scooter. TFTC!
