I spend so much time on the trails of Douglas County that I thought I would share this location with you. This spot is in the Gateway Mesa Open Space, just off the Mitchell Creek Trail.

All of the other caches in this open space park are large so I thought I would make it more difficult and hide a micro! To get to this cache you will either need to hike or bike about 2 miles roound trip.

Good luck and have fun! Watch out for rattlesnakes on the trail in the warmer months. The park is open sunrise to sunset year-round. Please BYOP. Do not remove the container from it's hiding spot. Instead, twist the top off.

Try #2 today and even with Mrs spacecadets we couldn't put our hands on it. Read old logs and think we'll ask some friends for a hint. Still a nice day to be out socially distancing.

Finally! Boy oh boy did I let this one get the best of me. I posted my dnf on my 1st visit after an exhaustive search (where now I see I was right next to it multiple times). Then TAF and got a general description for my 2nd search but that ended up just narrowing my search to the right level but in the wrong area. So the same caching friend actually made a personal visit to make sure it’s still there. It was & the friend was able to redirect my search to the correct area where I did the forehead slap today. I’m going to blame my blindness on my recent eye surgery & ongoing vision challenges. Yep, that’s it.

Wow this was a tough one. I felt fortunate that it only took me 18 minutes to find. It could've taken much longer. Thank you for placing this cache and helping to keep our recreation going.

In the area on a cache maintenance run. Looked for a short time, but this one needs more time and the aid of Mrs spacecadet's eyes. Will try again in the future.

Wow, this one took some serious looking! Went around and around, in and out, up and down and was ready to give up, when after an hour of searching, one last gasp look revealed the sneaky container. Signed log. Thanks for a challenging one off a trail with some great views!

Today @WindAtMyBack and I headed south to grab some caches along a trail. A short 2 mile walk in the woods on a beautiful day is the right medicine! During this walk we saw several birds and heard many more. There are so many humming birds here. We watched one playing in the sky, flying straight up, then diving down, and hovering. The few prairie dogs we saw weren't upset by our presence. No snake sightings today. Great caching day!

This new, unfound, cache is the reason for our journey today. A micro in the woods, huh? After seeing two previous DNF's, I didn't have a lot of hope. We grabbed the other caches in the area on the way to this one. Then we started the daunting task. Luckily, we found the cache within 1 minute. Ok, that's not true. Just a test to see if the CO actually reads the logs. Actually, we searched for about 3 hours, couldn't find it, so we knew it was missing. Dropped a replacement of a cardboard Frosted Flakes box covered in silver duct tape. Left some flakes in it for the animals. Ok, that's not true either. Now the real story....

Coords here were a little bouncy. This group of trees provides lots of hiding spots. We started from the outside, looking in every knook and cranny before moving inside. No luck. GPS put me outside the tree while I was inside, so we couldn't trust our dot on the map. But I did trust the overhead satellite view. Which is a good thing. It was practically spot on. But it still took my eyes a while to find it in just under an hour with 2 searchers. Well done. I hope the tree can hold up to the onslaught of cachers looking for this one. TFTC!
