Going up!
View to the north west

The walk is about one mile, up hill, on a dirt path. The last few steps are a bit rocky. If you go early in the morning you might see a group of mule deer. If it is warm enough, you are likely to see lizards scattering as you walk by. At the end of the trail you will have a 360 degree view. Looking to the east you will see the Sangre de Christo mountain range. On a clear day, facing east, look at the base of the short lower mountain range. Can see the Great Sand Dunes?
The cache is a black can about the size of a one pound coffee can. The original contents of the cache are: 2 chockers necklaces - a dolphin and a brown one, a small plastic alien, T-Puller, heart key chain, stuffed yellow penguin, stickers, plastic dinosaur, 2 metal bookmarks, 1-6" glass ruler, plastic ring, small top, 3 Del Norte Town pins, and cloth bag with coin inside.

Great cache in a great location. The climb requires a little less than 600 vertical feet over less than a mile of hiking, which may be steep for some. The view is pretty spectacular. The ammo box is the summit log, NOT the cache! The originally described cache is still there, and the coordinates are good. We had some trouble prying the lid off the cache, but everything was in good shape. It was very surprising in this drought year to find the northeast slope of the hill abloom with paintbrush, paperflower, saxifrage, penstemons, claret cups, and others. TFTC

Found today with Slowlane after a visit to the museum and before an excellent lunch at Three Barrels. We were glad for a cool and cloudy day! TFTC!

Not sure where the black can is but I found an ammo can with a full log. It's in a very obvious location so this might not be it. Sometimes people leave logs at the top of mountains...and this is called Lookout Mountain...though it's really a hill...Anyway, I filled the ammo can with toys and signed the log. TFTC!

Out on the last day of a trip with MissPiggyBacker. We had intended to grab caches a bit farther north, but thunderstorms moved in earlier than anticipated and forced us out. I saw this cache on the map and suggested it, and I'm glad I did! The hike up was pleasant, especially with the clouds advancing. From the top we could see rain shafts pretty much everywhere except east. We found the cache out in the open up top, with its contents scattered about. We replaced the contents, but left the cache where we found it. Lightning had us hurrying back down. Spectacular views from GZ though! TFTC :)

I found the black can...so apparently it is still in play. did not see ammo can or I probably would have gone for it as I was swarmed by flies! SL and made my exit.

I'm not sure if I found the right item or not. Could not find the described cache but an ammo box was at the location... Can anyone say if the ammo box has replaced the black can?
