This is one of a series of caches that are associated with the local history.

Opening or disassembly of any part of the building or electrical equipment is not required.

The original name of this property was Grand Junction Milling and Elevator Company, which burned in 1898 leaving nothing “except stacks of smoldering sacks of flower”. The 30 foot tall smoke stacks, foundations, and engine room also remained which were put back into service with a new silo.

The property was then called the Mesa Flour Mill Company, which had a silo built by John O’Boyle, the founder of Mesa Flour Mill Company.  After Mr. O’Boyle passed away about 1911, his daughter Lila hired William W. Campbell to manage the business.  Mr.  Campbell replaced the previous silo with a 60 foot tall concrete silo, construction began on July 31, 1916 and was completed August 7th, 1916 based on a post card that depicts the beginning and end of construction. Photos from 1923 of the area do not include those silos which indicate that they were removed, perhaps of poor construction or being affected by the nearby railroad.

The property was managed by Mesa Flour Mill Company until the company closed in 1962. The property later became Mesa Feed and Farm supply which provided a variety of feed but was especially known for the fish food which had a wide distribution. In 1975 the entire feed store burned to the ground in a 50 mph wind which spread to other parts of the industrial area. The news report indicated that the silos were constructed by a flower mill years before. There is no exact record of when the silos were constructed, and the Mesa County Accessor has no records predating 1974.

The current use of the facility is an indoor recreational facility which uses the silos for indoor climbing and activities. The art is provided by local artists in a competition where the winner has been selected by the customers. Cache placed with the permission of the property owner.
