CONGRATS TO : starnsun FTF!!!The Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad platted the Raymer townsite in Weld County in 1888. The town was named for George Raymer, an assistant chief engineer for the railroad. The Raymer Post Office opened on June 27, 1888. The town flourished for a while, but families eventually moved away and the Post Office closed on May 14, 1895.
The town was given a second life when it was replatted in 1909. On November 13, 1909, the United States Post Office Department open a new post office named New Raymer to distinguish it from the old Raymer post office. The town was incorporated in 1919 under its original name as the Town of Raymer. The city of New Raymer is located in Weld County approximately 125 miles northeast of Denver, Colorado and 25 miles north of Ft. Morgan, Colorado. Access is by State Highway 14, which runs east and west. The population is approximately 91 and elevation is 4,777 feet above sea level. The main traffic artery is Highway 14, which runs east and west. The general neighborhood can best be described as a small bedroom community with strong ties to the agricultural trade. Ft. Morgan is the closest retail and service center for the residents of New Raymer. This includes higher education, shopping, banking, medical/dental care, recreation and other amenities offered. New Raymer is an incorporated town and is governed by a town council, which includes a mayor and 6 councilmen. New Raymer has law enforcement which is provided by Weld County. There is a volunteer fire department. Water is provided by the town of New Raymer or by individual wells. Electricity is provided by Excel Energy. Wiggins Telephone Company provides telephone service. The local school has less than 200 students, pre-school through 12th grade. High academic growth and performance on state assessments is made known. The average student/teacher ratio is 10 to 1. For higher education, Morgan Community College in Fort Morgan and Northeastern Junior College in Sterling both offer two year associate degrees. New Raymer is located in close proximity to two popular trails, Pawnee Buttes and Pawnee National Grassland. Tourists enjoy day trips to these trails to enjoy wildlife and nature.
TRENDS:
New Raymer has been a bedroom community for over 120 years. Many people prefer to live in a small town such as New Raymer, and commute to larger towns and/or cities. This trend is likely to continue into the foreseeable future.
The State of Colorado uses the name Raymer for the town, but the United States Postal Service uses the name New Raymer (ZIP code 80742) and refuses to accept the name Raymer for postal delivery. Either name may appear on maps or in gazetteers.

01/04/2019 By GanderGoose On a road trip to do repair work on a goose blind and some geocaching in small towns near the Pawnee Grasslands. We enjoy the Small Town Series. It's fun to see these quaint country towns. Thanks for the placement, twins18!
12/22/2018 By Croochie We were going on a caching rampage today and got around 50. Thanks to all for placing caches!
11/11/2018 By oz8118 This definitely is a small town. It sure is quiet around here. I just parked in the middle of the road to pick up the cache. I'm on a weekend road trip through Cheyenne and Nebraska, heading back home the long way through Sterling and Greeley, back to Denver. I was able to grab a few oldies for my Jasmer matrix, a webcam, and a GIFF event for obtaining nine different cache types in one day. It's been a very successful geo road trip! Thanks for creating this cache and the smiley! Cheers, keep calm and cache on!
07/13/2018 By fam2go We went to NE CO today to get 3 counties we needed, and in the process hunting down some hidden creatures! Great day and we made it safely through Friday the 13rh!
04/03/2018 By 13shell Picking up a few caches on my way out to Oregon, TFTC!
01/12/2018 By taylorsgeotracker First to find in 2018! Out in smallville on a job and needed a distraction. Thanks for the cache and the history
09/26/2017 By SGT red jeep A quick find on a very foggy morning. There were a couple of Muggles down the street, one just come out of the post office. It didn't look like they're paying too much attention to me so I made my grab and signed the log. I am hoping the fog will lift pretty soon because it makes driving a little bit hard with the lack of visibility.
