Near this site (7th & Wewatta St) stood the Hungarian flour Mill the Ranchway feed mill and also a large grain elevator across the street ,they were all owned by the ” Colorado Milling and Elevator Company” The feedmill was destroyed by fire in 1952, and the flour mill and grain elevator were torn down in 1970 The flour mill was mostly run by a large steam engine which was the largest operating steam engine west of the Mississippi at that time and It ran like a fine tuned watch and the finish shined like a mirror. When the mill was torn down, it was too expensive to relocate the steam engine so it was sold for scrape iron There was also a 2 story office building which contained a lab. for product control and a bakery for testing the product by baking bread, cookies etc. Many loaves of bread were baked daily, and a slice was cut from the center for testing, The rest was given to employees and others, and I can personally say they tasted great. This cache is placed here in honor of all the great people who worked here and for the good memories That we have had here, Many of them were family members. this is a part of Denver history which is gone but not forgotten, and as you stand here near this large parking lot, try to think of what this area once was.
