It's in Cortez, S on 160, E on 7th, S on Oak & W on Verde Vu, S to gravel parking lot. Accessible.

This is a natural area of cedar & pinon trees, sagebrush, prickly pear cactus, slickrock & wildflowers with a number of dirt paths to enjoy. Nice views of the LaPlata mountains, Mesa Verde & Sleeping Ute Mountain. Please sign the register at the trailhead.

The cache is less than 10 feet off the Mesa Trail, those in wheelchairs will need a partner. A pleasant 3/10 of a mile walk along an 8' wide concrete path from the gravel parking lot. You're looking for a 2"x 2"x1.5" round Loc-n-Loc container filled with "treasures". Please hide it carefully, disguise your tracks & beware of muggles. Have fun!

Our first find in Colorado!

This was also our first find during our two-week road trip from Des Moines, Iowa. We've been mostly out of commission for the past two years and our health has gone downhill, but we're trying to push ourselves. This was our first trip to Colorado that didn't involve just a layover at the Denver airport, so we knew we needed to get out and get a few caches.

The Hawkins Preserve is beautiful, and we would have stayed longer if our health wasn't so bad.

Oops! Cache was empty except for the log & a TB. I retrieved the TB & refilled the cache with swag. Seems some are taking, but not leaving any loot. My cache pups enjoyed the walk. :D Happy caching! TillyMae :)
