This cache was placed in Higgins Park just below my other cache, Coulson Gulch Ruins GC4GA1W. Please visit GC4GA1W for additional trail description. This will add about a ½ mile (round trip) to your hike down Coulson Gulch from the trailhead but the terrain is fairly easy.
Begin at the trailhead coordinates and hike down to the ruins of an old cabin, GC4GA1W. As you travel south from the cabin the trail soon leaves the trees and opens up into a massive meadow known as Higgins Park. Stay on Trail #916 until you are within about 25’ of the cache.
I have known about this meadow for many years, and like the cabin I have decided to share it with my fellow geocachers. It has always been a favorite place to stop, relax, and have some lunch before starting back up the trail. It is also a great place to set up camp if you are backpacking in.
In the spring time and summer I have seen stunning amounts of wildflowers in this meadow. Elk and deer frequent this area. As you can see by the photos there was a heard of elk here the day I placed the cache. I also spotted deer and a blue grouse but they were too far away to get a good photo on my phone.
For the more adventurous, you will arrive at a crossroads of trails just before you find this cache. The road to the east is Button Rock Road which comes up from Button Rock Reservoir. This road is for non-motorized travel. Trail 916 continues south for about a mile where it meets up with the North Saint Vrain River, one of my all-time favorite places to fly fish.
The container is a small camouflaged container. It’s made out of aluminum and actually seals and protects the contents from the elements (I think it’s pretty cool). It will hold small trackables/tradables.
