Microcache.  Park n Grab.  First cache in Lost Ski Areas (LSA) series.

This is the first in a series titled "Lost Ski Areas of the Front Range" honoring the ghosts of skiing past that still haunt our 21st-century landscape.  The story begins in 1913 at Inspiration Point in northwest Denver (yes, Denver!)

Inspiration point was never a commercial ski area, but it played a crucial role in the development of skiing in Colorado.   It was here that Colorado Ski Hall-of-Famer Carl Howelson and friends dazzled up to 10,000 Denverites and visitors at an exhibition held during the Stock Show in January 1913.  Back then, skiing meant ski jumping, and Howelson and his fellow "skee" enthusiasts built a rickety jump and landing pad which they used for competitions throughout the (nineteen) teens and twenties.  The cache is a bison tube located at the end of a neighborhood street.  It might take a little creative searching to find (hence, the 2.5 difficulty rating). Look up the hill to the east and imagine wooden ski jumps protruding from the steepest portion of the northwest-facing hillside.

Thanks for providing that tool! I would not have gotten the cache out without it. It took me a few minutes to get the log out. I saw a shoe tied to the sign, I’m not entirely sure what that signals but I’ve heard it’s not good. I could be wrong though.

Saw there were problems with retrieval, so I placed a retrieval tool close in proximity to the cache. All else is well.

I’m on a trek to find caches in the rest of the Colorado counties, in a clockwise direction. Expecting it to take about 5 days, before I start my journey back to Florida. County #55 Denver. All is well here. TFTC SL

Replaced container and log about a week or two ago, but forgot to notify. Someone has found it since, so it must be good.

I loved learning about the "skee" history here. What a bunch of daredevils! A great panoramic point with a delightful view! I found a random shoe planted here, not related to the cache. The log was a hot mess. I had to toss it. Since the container is so small, I didn't have a baggie that would fit, so I just used a rite-in-rain log sheet without a baggie. Hopefully that will keep for a while, although there is a small crack in the bottom of the tiny container.
Thanks for creating the cache and the interesting history lesson.
Cheers, keep calm and cache on.

Didn't find it but if gps coordinates are off then we weren't looking in the right spot. Might try again another day.
