My cacheboys love mythology, so here's the next in our series. CONGRATS!!! to Chihuahuas-3 for FTF!

***Note 8/16/18: Due to repeated deliberate muggle-vandalism, the cache was changed to premium-only and slightly different position (same coords). We'll see if it still gets muggled...Wave to the old magnetic key cache visible at the top of the north side of the gazebo...We got tired of hauling out the 30 ft ladder. Please take care to replace exactly as found. ***

The Oracle at Delphi is a figure of great historical importance that was, and still is, shrouded in mystery. According to legend, the hill at Delphi was guarded by a giant serpent called Pythos for hundreds of years. Apollo killed Pythos and claimed Delphi as his sanctuary and temple. Apollo's advice was sought by the Greek cities on important matters of state, and the one Oracle, chosen from Apollo's priestesses called "Pythia", spoke for the god Apollo and answered questions for the Greeks and others about colonization, religion, and power. First, the Oracle entered the inner chamber of the temple, then sat and inhaled the light hydrocarbon gasses that escaped from a chasm in the earth (confirmed by modern geologists). After falling into a trance, she muttered words incomprehensible to mere mortals, so they were interpreted by the priests. These prophesies were often vague and had dual meanings. For example, Croesus, king of the Lydians, wanted to know if he should attack the Persian Empire, so he sought the advice of the Oracle. She told him he would destroy a great empire if he attacked, so he did. Little did he know the "great empire" destroyed was actually his own. While the authenticity of the story of Croesus may be questionable, what is certain is that the Oracle of Delphi did indeed exist.

 Hints

Apollo, like most of the Olympic gods, was SO attractive. Cache is now nano, and low. You might have to blind reach or look under...

We found it after spending more time than we thought on this one. We thought it was a screw cap. Filled out the last space on the log so needs to be replaced

11:39:00 AM Out with Grand High Pobah this morning picking up a few caches. The weather was great until the wind picked up later. Fun area, and enjoyed walking on the Link Trail. Thanks Nighthawkers Had to visit this cache twice because somebody in my group left their gps on the picnic table! Glad GHP realized before we got all the way back to Golden.

Well, got a photo of a lake for my Kraken TB that i had brought back from Wisconsin. AND got one more of the Myth series that has been calling my name for some time now. This was a nice peaceful spot but will have to look elsewhere for a larger cache to drop the Kraken. TFTC

I replaced the container with one that will hopefully stay out of sight of the muggle who keeps throwing it up on top of the gazebo...

Disabling again after report of being muggled again. So frustrating since the mugglage is so obviously deliberate. Sigh. Might have to disable this permanently since it looks like some person is determined to ruin this cache, but I'd like to place a replacement in the area, so I'll ponder for a few days. Definitely not breaking out the ladder again...

Sorry to report that it’s been muggled again :(

Nicely done. Thanks for the parking coordinates. Due to two groups of bicyclists, I strolled next to the lake and stared at a duck until they were gone. That interruption gave me the perfect vantage point to spot the cache. Thanks for the placement, Nighthawkers!

Thank heavens for a helpful geohubby and a very, very tall ladder. Cache has been rescued from the heavens and placed back where it belongs and enabled. Let's hope it can stay there, because I'm not sure I can convince him to do this again :) At least my trackable got to visit... Happy hunting.

Some joker must’ve climbed the gazebo and stuck it on top or just lazily thrown it up 30 feet. Not cool. Disabling until I can figure out a way to sneak a ladder out here. Rats.

I suspect it was moved/muggled to an unreachable spot.
