Scenic view  Significant hike  Cliff / falling rocks  Long Hike (+10km)

This should be a great hike in the old coal mining country!

This cache was placed to not only give you a beautiful hike, but make you tired in the process!  Parking is available at the Little Bookcliffs Wild Horse Area trailhead.  As for your route to the cache, that's up to you!  Traveling to this cache and back should take you almost all day, so bring LOTS of water and food for the hike.  The terrain is very challenging, but you should not need to do any actual rock climbing to reach it's location.  You will need good route finding skills and a sense of direction.

The cache is well stocked as a reward for your efforts: Exactly $40 cash, 2 brand-new trackables, and many other mystery items are waiting to be discovered!

Thanks to my friend mschultheis for helping scout the area and going with me to place this cache!

Also, special thanks to Beverly R. for the custom artwork on the container!

Good luck, enjoy the amazing Colorado landscapes, and be safe!

Congratulations to BG2015 for First to Find!

So, the challenge was to make me tired? Get me out of my comfort zone and off the beaten path? Mission accomplished! What could be more extreme than a hike in the desert, outside Grand Junction, in the heat of the day, in July? The hike to this cache, that's what. Definitely some steep parts and my route finding wasn't always the best. Totally destroyed my dogs pads, so be warned, if you don't have a mountain dog, leave him at home. If I had to do it again, I'd bring more water and less snacks. Ran out about halfway down. It wouldn't have been so bad if I could maintain my pace, but the dog slowed me down to a snail's crawl. We had a lot of personal moments out there. I did see some really strange, green lizards, quite large, they looked more like a large gecko or something. At the end of the day, saw the wild horses and one pony in the group, of course, my phone was dead by then. Less than 3 hours to get to the top, but took 4.5 hours to get down with the wounded pup. We were both dog tired by the end of our 11 mile journey. Don't ever forget, when you reach the top, you are only halfway there. Thanks for putting this out there and pushing the boundaries for some of us non-hikers. It was definitely a butt-kicker. That was some of the best swag I have ever seen. I left almost all of it for the next brave soul to choose from. They'll deserve it. [FTF]
