Here is a short example of a hike on moderate terrain. Long distance hiking trails like the Appalachian Trail (2,197 mi.) the Pacific Crest Trail (2,650 mi.), or the Continental Divide Trail (3,100 mi.) can take about 6 months to complete. The shorter Colorado Trail which runs between Denver and Durango (587 mi.) can take about 6 weeks. Depending on the terrain, the average long distance hiker will average between 12 and 18 miles per day. You climb up and down over hundreds of mountains. Everything you need each day (maps, food, shelter, sleep system, water, etc.) has to be carried in a pack on your back. The most important of these is WATER. You always carry water on any hike! With a 5 day supply of food, your pack could weigh up to 30 lbs!
PARK ONLY ON THE RESIDENTIAL SIDE OF THE STREETS SO YOU DO NOT IMPEDE TRAFFIC!
Congrats to Vegantriathlete for the FTF!
