You can follow your GPS straight to the cache, but follow these directins for an easier walk. A short fairly easy walk from the road 275 feet into Whiskey Gulch. Then a slight easy grade 145 feet to the cache. LOTS OF GOODIES FOR FTF !!!!!!!!
Cache location is somewhat winter friendly, with great views including, Sphinx Rock. Nice spot to pic nic in the sun.

Welcome to Historic Whiskey Gulch! Walk into the gulch keeping your eyes right looking for remnants of and old rock wall. At apx 275 feet in, you will make a hairpin right and follow up a mild grade. Follow your GPS from here.

This area is WHISKEY GULCH. In the mid 1930's a local moonshiner & whiskey runner by the name of George Burgedorff, had a few whiskey stills in local gulches, including this one. George had borrowed a saddle pack from a local named Joe Hill, who was the local mail carrier for 30 years, to haul sugar to his stills. Joe kept asking for it's return, and never got it back. He told George he would make him pay somehow, and "thru the nose".
One day while atop Elephant Rock in Pine, Joe saw George bringing whiskey down from his still in Whiskey Gulch. The load was too heavy to get all the way to Pine, so George hid it in some rocks, which Joe saw him do. Joe grabbed the stash and rehid it in Elk Creek.
George figured someone local stole his goods but couldn't figure out who. All that summer, Joe furnished all the guys in town with that drinking Whiskey. He even served some to George.
Eventually Joe divulged that he had taken the whiskey. But it was not stolen! It was payment for the saddle George never returned.
You can get more history like this of the area in a book titled "The Upper Side Of The Pie Crust" By Margaret V. Bently.

Not all that much room to pull off. Enjoyed this cache and the history that goes with it. The geodogs enjoyed getting out of the car for a leg stretch.
