Colorado National Monument is one of my favorite hiking grounds. There are many trails into the canyons here. This one is often approached from the bottom, near Devil's Kitchen - where you can walk the stream bed and, with a little scrambling, enjoy two waterfalls before the trail becomes indistinct and more difficult to follow.

When I had hiked all of the other trails on the Monument several times I decided it was time to venture down this one from the top. One of the difficulties was finding this trailhead. No signs along the road to point it out- just a bit of space to park on the shoulder and a small sign announcing the CNM boundary. I am placing this tiny cache here to make it a bit easier for others to find this spot.


No Thoroughfare Canyon is one of the more remote and longer trails through the Colorado National Monument. It is indistinct in places and should only be attempted if you have a full day of good weather, a good map, adequate water and confidence in your trail-finding abilities. The best advice I have heard is "stay high and to the left" as you continue through the middle of the canyon. Eventually you will need to drop back into the main stream bed and skirt two refreshing waterfalls before reaching the other end of the trail near Devil's Kitchen. Check with the ranger station for topo maps and more specific advice heading down.... be prepared!

At least hike down a ways while you are here... enjoy the beauty and the solitude of this one!
