This cache was originally placed by pjadams and adopted by us so the credit goes to them for the breathtaking views.
South of Glenwood Springs a few miles, about 1/2 mile or so of fairly steep climbing (about 425 vertical feet rise from trailhead to cache), sometimes without clear trail.
To get to the trailhead from downtown Glenwood Springs:
From downtown Glenwood Springs - follow Highway 82 South to 27th Street.
Turn right and proceed 1/4 mile to the bridge crossing Roaring Fork River.
Cross the bridge and stay on the main road until you pass the Conoco Gas Station.
County Road 117 (Four Mile Rd.) forks to the right about a 1/4 mile past the Conoco.
Proceed 5 miles up Four Mile Road.
Look for the big red barn with the circle 4M brand painted on it.
The trailhead is just across the road.

If you want to park there near the barn, please be sure to ask Jim or Sharill Hawkins
(the owners) if it is okay (you'll only be there about an hour).
There are some waypoints listed below for two different places to enter the trail, plus some waypoints that may help guide you up the not-always-clear trail.
From the road, you'll be going generally north, though there is some "jogging" in the trail. Sometimes you'll be on a trail, sometimes in dried-up stream-bed, sometimes picking your way through some sparse vegetation (no bushwhacking).

See the pictures page for a bit of a pictoral hint -- pictures taken from the east side (the side it would be easiest to approach the rocks from).

Starting contents are rather meager: a lizard keychain, a Geocoin, a TB, and a "pickle fork". Feel free to leave something and not take another if you want to bulk up the offering. :)

 Hints

The cache is in a hole of some rocks that offer a nice sitting place to see great views of the valley and surrounding mountains. There are a couple small rocks put over the opening of the hole to make it a bit less visible to passers-by, though you can see the ammo box if you are in the area.

This is our first 4 terrain cache. We walked from our cousins house to the cache (visible from their backyard) Hope they catch the cache bug. We brought them along since they had tried to locate it themselve without at GPS, to no avail. What a great view. TS LS Took TBs Thanks for such a great hide.

Team pyre was in the area (Dadpyre, Mompyre and Minipyre) for a wedding and some CO fun! Our wedding relatives live VERY close to this cache and had some trouble finding this one. So, we all trekked our way up. The hike was hard, but short enough for all to enjoy. Gramps found a harmless snake to show Minipyre, which he loved. When we reached GZ, a previous searcher found it almost immediately. The views up there are absolutely stunning. We were very honored to get to share that view, and to be some of the few finders of this cache. TFTC!

Awesome views and a really fun climb. Cool to find something that hadn't been touched in 4 years.

Directions out to the barn were very good but I was lost after that, couldn't find any trail, only what seemed to me to be game trails, hiked up the billy goat 'trail' it was pretty steep and loose. GPS was show me to be within 240 ft but came up on a rock wall and didn't attempt to climb. Will try one of the other routes next time.

Whew! Thanks for the cache and the hike. Bushwacking was the biggest obstacle on this one. Great view from the cache but didn't bring a camera again. Found a couple of ticks trying to hitch a ride so be on the look out. TNLNSL BigSmile
