The land you are parked at was originally purchased by Douglas County School District 15 on October 12, 1912 for the purpose of replacing the Larkspur school, which had been destroyed August 3 in the same year by a cyclone. Prior to the original school's destruction, there were already plans in the works to find a different location for the school, which was built sometime between 1872 and 1889.

Upon completion of the current building in 1913, this was a two-room school building, equipped with one classroom and a larger room used as an auditorium. In 1926, a 33'x45' one room addition was constructed, and in 1954 a rectangular addition was constructed in the back of the building which included a gymnasium, restrooms, new lunchroom, enlargement of the kitchen and storage areas, along with a new all-purpose room bringing the building to its current dimensions. The old lunchroom became a third classroom at this time.

As of 1960, the Larkspur schoolhouse had enrollment of 43 students and staff of 3 teachers, and shared a principal with another school in nearby Castle Rock. As the Perry Park and Greenland areas to the south and east grew in the late 1960s, it became necessary to replace the building seen here today. A new school was completed April 22, 1973 approximately 1 mile west of this building, which serves as the K-6 school for the area to this day. The bell from the bell tower in this building was moved to the new school.

In 1975, this building was sold to Robert Dooken, who ran a nut packaging plant in the building for a few years. Subsequently, this building has also been a daycare facility and a private residence.

In 1989, the town of Larkspur purchased the old schoolhouse, with the intent to restore the building for a town hall and use it for public activities, with the area around the school as a town square. This project was later cancelled, and in 2004, the building was purchased by the US Postal Service and renovated to suit its new owners.

Currently, this is the functioning post office for Larkspur, Greenland, Perry Park, and surrounding areas.

Thanks to the Larkspur Historical Society for the wealth of information about this location, which was adapted for use in this cache description

A big WOO and HOO to MikeAndJuli for grabbing FTF!

We stopped in on this cache right after the flash mob event, We had a fun time at the event and let the kids play on the playgrounds in the park by the event. As we were about to leave we went down to go find this cache as well. The boy is almost as tall as the weeds by this cache! I was a little bit worried about snakes. We found the cache but it was super soaked through. The log was all black and moldy. I poured out all of the water I could out of the main container and the bottle inside with the log. I didn't sign the log as well, it was mush. All in all it was a super fun day! Thanks for the fun cache out here.

- Don’t interrupt someone working intently on a puzzle. Chances are, you’ll hear some crosswords.

Found it after the flash mob. The overgrowth certainly ups the difficulty! Tftc!

We moved to the area in 1973, just after the new school was built. At the time, I was just starting the 7th grade so missed out on attending either of the elementary schools. I remember visiting the day-care / preschool around 2001 when we were looking for enrichment activities for our oldest child. Ultimately we chose another facility. Fun cache, thanks!
