From 1870-1920, bicyclists would race 25 miles along a path adjacent to the South Platte River from Denver to Brighton.  That path is now known as Old Brghton Road.  Native Americans once walked this trail as well as mountain men who called it the Trapper's Trail, settlers that called it the Cherokee Trail, and cowboys who called it the Goodnight-Loving Trail.  The old time cyclists called it the Sandpaper Track.  The winner of the bicycle races received a unique prize.

To qualify for the virtual find, please send answers and photo to Geocaching.com email or Message Center (on the description page).  Do not leave answers in your posted online log.

1. What year is on the finish line banner above the cyclist?

2.  How many people are part of this sculpture piece?

3. What was the Sandpaper Track Champion's prize?

4. Please take and send a photo with the sculpture in the background.  Although your face is not required, we enjoy seeing cacher smiles!

Couldn’t resist coming out to get the new virtual! I was a little upset that I had a meeting at 7am because I wanted to come find it right away. The meeting got cancelled at 6:58 and I think I was in the car at 6:59. What a great statue that celebrates the history of Brighton. I can imagine the whole town turning out on race day. I wonder why the ride stopped, maybe they should start it up again. Super happy to get an {*FTF*} at 7:10 am on a brisk 20 degree morning. Congratulations on a great virtual and thank you for all you do for geocaching!
