The first stage is a virtual cache located in Running Deer Natural Area.  This is the site of the relocated White Pine Fire Lookout cab, which now serves as a historic structure and wildlife observation platform.  The fire lookout was built in 1939 and in service until 1967. The cab was moved to Fort Collins in 1978 and eventually placed at this location in 2011.

To get the coordinates for the final, physical stage of the cache, refer to the information on the display boards inside the cab.  This final stage is located nearby on CSU Environmental Learning Center property.

The final is located at N40 33.59A W105 00.88B.  A = The number of stairs on the original tower divided by 10.  B = The length (or width since it was square) of the tower cab minus 5.

Parking and access is available either from the Running Deer parking lot or the Colorado Welcome Center, both of wich are adjacent to Prospect Road.  The roundtrip distance to complete the cache will be approximately 1.5 miles.

I was over at the welcome Center and saw this one on the map. I never actually went to the first stage but it was easy enough to find anyway. Very nice geocache!

Was on my way home from Monday morning coffee event and had time to walk to this great cache. Learned about the old fire top. Picked up the trackable. Thanks for the cache

After a DNF two years ago because of a large bull snake near gz, we finally made it back and claimed this find. No bull snake this time. TFTC!

Went for a drive around the Fort Collins area with "animjason" on a warm and sunny day - this was the first of fourty-six geocaches that we found along the way. TN-LN-SL. Thanks !

Targeting non-traditional caches. Also love fire lookouts. Found with Bhob. Easy and fun multi. This is multi #420, yay Colorado.

Left a trackable. Ducktales, come get it.
