Took the rocky road over from Notch Mtn today to grab this on a fall afternoon cache run. Quite the fun hike over. The hide is ready for the winter months. Plenty of hiding choices to have when seeking this one. Tftc CO! Certainly helps for the 2/2!

I think I like hiking though a live forest vs a dead forest. The aspens are making a comeback and there was plenty of raspberries plants. I saw zero little pine trees, but that's ok with me. I like aspens better anyways. Once I arrived at GZ I removed the rocks covering the cache in the 1st place I looked but I missed seeing the cache. After looking elsewhere I came back to the 1st spot I looked at and found the container. The spoiler picture probably would have shorten my search, but I didn't have it with me. At the top I could hear all of the people down in Eagle Lake Camp. I also heard some turkey's gobbling to the east.

Had a straight forward hike up the slope from Dark Side - nice area and not at all steep. Views from the top included Eagle Camp and many screaming children. Ah, the wilderness... Picked up Hiker Bunny who expressed interest in going to the top of Notch Mountain, and who was I to object? I'm not about to disagree with any bunny who can get all the way up here... Thanks for the nice cache!

WOW what an adventure for the first "real" hike of the season. Given the nice weather and little (if any) snow still on the ground, I (Dad) was trying to figure where to go caching this weekend with the Kidz (now 12, and 9 year old twins). I was looking for something close to home in Woodland Park, challenging but not too tough, long but not too long, and no cliffs. Getting a nice TB swap opportunity would be icing on the cake. I spotted this cache -- only found once since the Waldo Canyon Fire, a Jeep TB in it that we have never seen, a couple mile long hike and HEY -- it's an estes01 cache
Okay kids, I know what we are doing on Saturday
With very few approved parking spots along Rampart Range Road, we were very grateful for the parking coords. Parked there (next to two other vehicles), and headed east on the trail. Did not make it as far as the posted trail coords before we happened across two hunters looking east, toward the trail spot
Okay, let's go back the way we came in !!!
Hmmmm ... so much for the recommended approach. Okay, how about we head north, and try to avoid super steep stuff
Did that, and wound up -- on Rampart Range Road
How did THAT happen? Oh well, no matter. So we followed the road until we were very close to the ernie66 cache "Notch Mountain". Since that was not our priority, we passed on it, even though we were within 250 feet of it, and forged on. Our chosen route took us to the northeast (lots of rock climbing and hopping), then a bit of due north, then about 950 feet of keeping the ridge until we got the
WOW -- estes01 was NOT KIDDING when giving this one a Terrain 4
But, all 3 Kidz made the hike AOK, as did out-of-shape Dad
Okay, time to take a bunch of pictures (several attached), stamp the log, trade TBs and head back out. We dropped off a brand new pink Cachekinz Bunny trackable of ours -- Hiker Bunny. This was a PERFECT cache for a Hiker Bunny
Once back near Notch Mountain, we all agreed that we were pretty beat -- not going up there.
Once back at our Jeep, I checked our Trip Computer on the Garmin -- 2.92 miles, at just under 2 1/2 hours. Oof -- my aching legs
BUT -- this was just what I was hoping for, as described above as far as the hike, the cache, the TB -- everything. DEFINITELY giving this one a favorite point -- VERY well deserved. Awesome views, too -- see attached photos.
Looking forward to the next estes01 cache -- but not this weekend

Out early this morning for some hiking and fresh air, making room for the feast later this afternoon.
I came at thie one from the notch and I am starting to get alittle hungry.
From here I headed to the dark side.
Thanks for another nice hide to find!
