On July 13, 1915, at 2:30 a.m. marshal Frank Peak was shot and killed on duty crossing a footbridge over English Ditch near Second Street after walking a Loveland woman home.

Despite a few initial suspects, including two men who quit their jobs at the sugar factory and fled town the day after his death, his homicide remains unsolved.

Loveland night marshal Frank Peak became the first and only Loveland officer ever killed in the line of duty.

The first stage of this 2 stage multi-cache is at the location where marshal Peak was killed.  A few feet from the plaque placed on the 100th anniversary of his murder, you will find the coordinates to the final stage.

Very nicely done multi! I'm not sure why this wasn't on my radar until today. Nice short walk to the final location from where I parked, and found it right away. Everything is in great shape. TFTC

Such a sad story, but I enjoyed learning about this tragic event in Loveland history. I was blasting up the geocache stats with nerak2001 today north of D-town. This multi brings me one step closer to meeting my 100-multi challenge goal that I still need to qualify for. Only 39 more to go now. Also, we discovered more than 10 multis in one day for another phat stat.
Thanks for placing this interesting multi and helping me learn a little of local history Borgt. Also, it's always nice to have more multi's to find.
Cheers, keep calm and cache on.

Had a great time caching with oz8118 on this beautiful cool day. Had to brave a lot of mud due to the melting snow. We picked this one up in the dark in order to get as many multis as we could in 1 day. This one was very interesting to see and read about. Took us a little bit of searching at the final, but only because it was dark. This cache was found in good shape.

Thanks for the fun!

Found it at 0948.
I'd DNFed this almost a year and a half earlier, but I came back today with Dud&Plato, who'd already found it on his own a while ago.
At the first stage, the coordinates escaped me for a minute, until he pointed them out; but I know I'd found them before, as when we got to GZ, I remembered the area well. We spent maybe 5 minutes looking around, and indeed Dud&Plato couldn't quite remember where the hide was. Eventually he had an aha! moment and revealed the cache container. It turned out that I hadn't looked in that spot before, and maybe the coordinates are a little off (my GPSr, sitting on the hiding spot, thought it was 28' off). But anyhow, I'm glad to avenge this DNF with a fellow cacher's help! Also, the history tidbit is cool, if tragic, and I liked the old-time newspaper screenshot on the cache page!
TNLNSL. TFTC!

Tis always nice to make a find after a full year since the last finder. Took a bit to get around the road construction; then took poking around a bit more to make the find. But it is still there. #2405.

I do not think this one is there. I love the story and Honorary cache though so I hope you fix it.
Happy caching!

Gpsr signal bouncing around, but lots of illegal camping activities evident.

I hadn’t heard of Marshall Peak before, so thank you for placing this multi! The snow defeated us when it came to the second stage, but we’ll definitely give it another shot next time we’re in the area!
