Rose Hill Cemetery, in the heart of historic Commerce City, was
established in 1892 on what at the time was an open plain by the United Hebrew Cemetery Association.

Jews arrived in Colorado with the Gold Rush in 1859. The oldest
Jewish burials in Denver were conducted by the pioneer
organization, the Hebrew Burial and Prayer Society (later known as
the Hebrew Cemetery Association) from 1860 to 1910 and were
interred at the Denver Pioneer Cemetery "Old Jewish Section"
located east of Cheesman Park on Capitol Hill.

Most Jewish remains and gravestones there were moved to the
nonsectarian Riverside Cemetery and to the Jewish Fairmount, Golden
Hill and Rose Hill Cemeteries in the early 1900s due to urban
development.

"COLORADO SPIRIT QUEST"

The Colorado
Spirit Quest is a series of Caches placed by many individuals, near cemeteries
and historic sites in hopes of paying respect to the many pioneer ancestors that
have 'walked' before us.

There are hundreds of
cemeteries in the rural and mountain communities across Colorado. This series
will introduce you to many of them.

The
cache pages will provide a virtual history tour of the cemeteries and
tombstones.

COLORADO SPIRIT QUEST is not affiliated with any other 'Spirit Quest'
group. Special thanks and credit are given to SixDogTeam who started the
Indiana Spirit Quest in 2004. The idea has rapidly spread into many states.

The CSQ
endeavor is an enormous and relentless task. It cannot be accomplished by just
one or two people. This project will only flourish if there is a multitude of
volunteer cachers willing to place these caches.

After
locating the cache container, take some time to reflect back on the lives of
those pioneers and the effort it took to make Colorado such a great state.

This is a very interesting cemetery. Spotted the cache quickly. There's no lid on the container, so the log is in pretty bad shape. TFTC

On a caching adventure with Bhob today. I found thirteen caches today, and we found a place that sells Jolt Soda lol.

Well, I finally get to turn a frown upside down today. I was beginning to think of this as one I'd just never get. I'd been back and looked once, had someone parked right next to it, cemetery workers picking up trash, even had about six police cars and the road blocked off once. When I arrived today I used a different approach and found it right away. Turns out on previous visits my phone took me to the wrong place. I signed the log and saw the last date was 2016. Huh?!?!? I know some of the cachers who have found it since then... hmmm. Went to put the cache back and found the replacement. Signed that one, too. And found 5 unopened Coronas on the ground about 6 feet from the cache. Very fitting for this cache that always seems to have some thing weird going on. Thanks for the smiley! Find #2337.

Collecting 25 individual gold coins for the Mary Hyde souvenirs game week 4. Got my sixth handful of gold coins here and it surpassed what was required and I have a pocket full of extra "gold" coins! Now I need to decide if I want to buy a new phone or GPS with the profits. Use some TLC on this one as the log was damp but still held my entry. The plastic screw lid is cracked and should be repaired or replaced. TFTC SL
