Colorado Animals

The mule deer (Odocoileus hemionus) is a deer indigenous to western North America; it is named for its ears, which are large like those of the mule. Two subspecies of mule deer are grouped into the black-tailed deer.

Unlike the related white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus), which is found throughout most of North America east of the Rocky Mountains and in the valleys of the Rocky Mountains from Idaho and Wyoming northward, mule deer are only found on the western Great Plains, in the Rocky Mountains, in the southwest United States, and on the west coast of North America.

The most noticeable differences between white-tailed and mule deer are ear size, tail color, and antler configuration. In many cases, body size is also a key difference. The mule deer's tail is black-tipped, whereas the white-tailed deer's is not. Mule deer antlers are bifurcated; they "fork" as they grow, rather than branching from a single main beam, as is the case with white-tails.

Each spring, a buck's antlers start to regrow almost immediately after the old antlers are shed. Shedding typically takes place in mid-February, with variations occurring by locale.

What Order does the Mule Deer belong?
Same as a giraffe!

You can validate your puzzle solution with certitude.

Spotted it from the trail but had to wait for a stair climbing muggle to pass. Another fav.

A sunny, windy morning to hike the RH area again. Ended up at about 5.5 miles to collect the new Nature Hook caches. Needed the hint for this one. Cheers!

I only saw homo sapiens (and a lot of them) on the way to the cache and, being a hermit, that’s a treat . Unfortunately I see mule deer pretty much every day, mostly eating my landscaping that is supposed to be deer-proof. Once spring springs, I hope they will go for that instead. Took a minute at GZ and that’s only going to get worse as the season progresses. TFTC!

{FTF} @ 1251

I guess that maybe the less than beautiful weather played in my favor today. I had meetings in the morning and didn't know how long this one would last. This FTF allowed me to complete the month of March and gets me to a total of 335 FTF calendar days. I saw a few other people on the trail while I was out.
