From the trailhead, take the Historical Gilpin Tramway trail to Quartz Valley. You will pass a couple of old mine structures and the old mercantile before reaching the homestead. After seeing the homestead, go up Quartz Valley trail 0.22 miles to see where the old mill site and tailings dump where.

The container is the size of a bowling ball and has a log, pen, some goodies and a couple of ready-made caches with logs for you to hide in it, to start.
