This cache is located at as the name says the end of the line and at the very end of County Rd. 304. You can access it by Cnty Rd 304 from the scenic overlook off hwy 285, or you can park at the Buena Vista River Park and walk to it on one of the many trails. Please use caution with children as there are some steep areas nearby.
This location was once the site of a railroad trestle for the Colorado Midland Railroad that came into town in July 1887 from Colorado Springs. The railroad kept to this hill as to not lose elevation on its way to Leadville. The trestle was made of iron and later reinforced with timber to accomodate the heavier locomotives. There was a station, bunkhouse, several storage sheds and sidings located about 3/4 miles south of this spot, where the Barbara Whipple Trail joins the road. The last passenger train to Buena Vista was in 1918 and its last freight train in 1921. The trestle remained until it was dismantled and used for scrap metal during WWII. You can still see the old abutments.
The cache origianal contents include two CD's, sidewalk chalk, matchbox cars, toy trucks, some cool rocks, and sea shells. Please rehide just as well as you found it. Happy Caching!

Congrats Hartsdale FTF!

Found with evgnhiker and the mini-me on a day trip to Buena Vista to hike and visit the hot springs. We hiked up from the river at the main parking and walked along the level road for the mini-me. This is a fascinating area with the history of the local railroads. I'm assuming the previous finders 2Antsmarching are DMB fans as well! Thanks for the hide.

End of the day and couldn't quit until going to the end of the line! Interesting history in interesting places, and this definitely qualifies! Interesting road, but spectacular views, and enjoyed seeing the remains of the trestle and reading the history! Tried to imagine what it would have been like coming across that trestle back in the day (yikes!) Almost forgot, found the cache in good shape and traded TBs...now to get turned around! TFTC and earns a favorite, for sure!!
