The coordinates above are not the final location for the cache, but street parking for Griffith Station Park.  This is a relatively simple field cache that can be completed by answering the questions below to find the final coordinates.  If there is snow on the sidewalks, this field puzzle will be difficult to solve, but otherwise should be findable in minimal snow cover.

Griffith Station Park opened in Arvada in 2015.  It was named after Ulysses Grant Griffith, a farmer who moved to the Arvada area in 1890 and owned a four acre truck garden at W 51st Avenue and Griffith Lane (today known as Carr Street).  Approximately a block south of Griffith Station Park is the Interurban Trail, which follows the old trolley line that ran at the time, and there was a stop named for the Griffith community which consisted of 40 homes.  Given the proximity to the old trolley line to the south and the modern Gold Line to the north, the park has a railway theme.

After exploring this trail, you can walk south down Carr Street approximately a block to find the Interurban Trail (signage marks the trail), and take a short walk west to Garrison Lake (about 5-10 minutes) to find another nearby cache.

The cache is located at N 39 47.abc W 105 05.def, where the letters can be solved by answering the following questions:

One of the playground items was designed to look like a locomotive.  How many wheels are on the locomotive?  This is a.

How many black lampposts are in the park? And no, the cache is not hidden in any of them!  The number of lampposts is bc.

How many “Railroad Crossing” signs are in the park?  Add 1 to this number for d.

How many charcoal grills are in the park?  Multiple this number by four for e.

Many of the sidewalks in the park have cuts in the cement designed to mimic railway rails.  In the center of the park there is a sidewalk design with railway rails and ties.  How many railway ties are in the design?  Divide this number by 11 for f.

Cache is a bison tube, so bring your own writing instrument!

You can check your answers online at the link below, or if you don’t have internet access, a + b + c = 8, and d + e + f = 15.  If you use Certitude to check your answers, enter in the full coordinates with N and W to get verification.

You can validate your puzzle solution with certitude.

**Congrats to redriderz for FTF on 2/26/2017!***

There was a mom with two small kids using the playground when I arrived, but they were packing up to leave. The only other person in sight was a homeless guy sleeping in one of the pavilions. So I was able to compute the coordinates and head over to the final without incident. Really interesting playground that my kids would have enjoyed back when they were the right age. Cache is in great shape, TFTC!

Didn't need to replace but the log has been wet and it was full at one time. The signatures have all water faded away so I was able to sign log. It is approx 8-10' farther east than your coordinates. Blends in nicely. TFTC. Cute park. It was busy.

WOO-HOO! I really enjoyed working out this field puzzle, in this cool little park this afternoon! Only a few people were here, so I enjoyed being able to stroll around and find the answers in relative peace. I appreciate the hint at the end, which sped up the find! SL, TFTC!

We have been by this park several times, however we have no little ones so no reason to stop.
Enjoying it from the distance, we have always thought it was a cute little park and appreciate the cashe taking us there to see it a little bit closer.

Out for an 22 mile bike ride .Picked up two puzzle caches. It was getting quite warm out there this afternoon. 12:56:00 PM% Thanks! This is a fun park. I remember riding by here quite a few times when they were constructing it. I must have gotten all the answers right, because I found the final! I love it when that happens! It was nice that there was some shade in the park for resting out of the sun.
